Update on fuel mileage, as a quite spirited run through some twisties, I managed to get the Avg. Cons. down to 17.5 mpg, something I've never been able to do on the street!! So this cam will obviously suck down more gas when called into action.

Still working to rid the car of a little vibration above 6k rpm. I'm putting the car on jack stands this a.m. to check all the heat shields again.

I can see the same during hammer time and then 30+ cruising the highway. Power is fun!

I'm sad and happy at the same time. My car is going to be better and stronger than it ever has been before, but the cost to get it running again isn't going to be pretty--despite Jan and Danny doing all they can to make it easier for me to swallow--it's still a pill the size of a dinosaur egg to swallow, lol.

I've decided to rebuild the entire bottom end. Danny removed my engine and dropped it off at the machinist. Also, since I was expecting to do a clutch in January, it's being done now to with a stage 1 clutch.

Essentially, when I bought my car broken and used two years ago, I was able to delay major repairs until now. Not the best timing for me, but I'm certain with all the mods, it's going to be a blast to drive.

A BIG THANKS to Danny for letting me drive his 14mpg Jeep, lol, and to Jan and RMW for finding new ways to make my car better.

I agree. It'll be VERY nice not to have to deal with the stutters and misfires that plagued me, and it'll be even nicer knowing that I can track my car if I wanted too---the last shop that worked on my engine and installed the helicoils, told me that the helicoil was fine as long as I didn't heat the engine up for sustained periods, as in a track day, lol.

I will try getting some better video up in a couple of weeks. I plan on doing exterior video with part throttle acceleration and full throttle acceleration.

OG, sorry for your car but I'm sure it will come back much better. Of course, the money part is going to be hard to swallow...

Blimey, I hope I'll have a RMW built engine too someday, I'm going to cross my fingers

Well after reading all the reviews - I ordered the RMW cam and shorty header today through Helix. Will install sometime in January.

Sorry to bring a old topic back up. But from what I've read from the OP's post, the cam and header combo is good for only 10 to 15 HP? err. That's more than $1000 before labor. Is it really thaaat worth it? What can be expected after a tune? What kind of powers can I expect if I add the cam/header combo with my Intake, 17%, and SS exhaust?

I can only post my experience. Prior to cam and header, my car was stock JCW. They seem to be getting around the mid 180's WHP when dyno'd. I didn't do a baseline dyno before the parts install, but my baseline prior to the RMW tune was 200 WHP, so around 15 WHP seems like a good estimate with the stock tune. After Jans magic, the car ran 223 WHP, with no other mods (including the stock JCW pulley), so it's obviously worth even more with a tune.

the cam header combo will make more hp and way more torque than the CAI and catback that you already purchased. The stock catback exhaust is satisfactory up to 230hp. Some of our highest hp M45 cars are still using the stock JCW airbox Best part is they shield the heat better also

adding the tune to the cam and header as Davisflyer has done really brings it all together

I can confirm this as I have the same header Cam and tune as DavisFlyer only difference is mine is a GP and my car just seems to drive more smoothly plus the header makes it sound great and the car is more responsive.

Agree'd One of the best things we've put on the race car. And the sound is intoxicating.

I know you need a tune to fully utilize the cam, but can you, and for how long can you run a new cam (say the rmw street cam) without a tune?

I feel like it'll be one of those things where it'll take a bit to save up to go from a cam install to a tune...

I was kind of in the same boat as you, after I installed my cam and header I had to wait 9 months before Jan had a tune gathering near me. Car ran fine the whole time.

I installed the RMW Dominator Cam on my 06 JCW R52 and upgraded to the 450cc injectors and had to have Jan send me a new tune. I had to do the tune right away because of the injectors. Jan and I met up at the Dragon last May and he did some more tuning and it really improved every aspect of the upgrades. So far I have a 16% pulley, RMW Cam, OBX header with Random Technology Cat and a stock sized ATI Dampener. I have not had it on the Dyno and am really interested in seeing my numbers. I would like to get the RMW head next and then do the dyno tune. All in good time.

I understood the cam, header and pulley would max out my 380cc injectors hence the upgrade to 450's. You really need to make sure you are not doing anything that will cause your mini to run lean at high rpm as it is a show stopper. food for thought.

Sorry about posting this reply. I was inspired by davisflyer's signature so I tried to do something similar and wanted to see if it looked the way I hoped.

Yeah, It really depends on which cam one gets. There are many cams available now! On the RMW street cams, or whatever they are called now, they will work fine with stock tune. If anything, after the cam install, my car was still running rich on stock JCW injectors. The Dominator cam is a bit more aggressive though!
