flywheel and clutch

I am going to add a Quaife LSD to my '04 MCS. I plan on also replacing the stock clutch and flywheel at the same time. (The clutch would probably need replacing in a year or so anyway.) I am considering the Clutchmasters Stage 1 or 2 or ACT HDSS clutch and Clutchmasters or Fidanza lightened flywheel. Right now I only have a catback exhaust and drop in K&N filter, no real power mods, but I have a 15% pulley waiting to go on after the end of this autocross season. I am not sure where the mods will end (given the open rules in the class I am going to), but I don't anticipate doing much more than the pulley and an intake during the next couple of years.

So, is Clutchmasters the way to go for the clutch and flywheel? Should I go with a Stage 1 or Stage 2? Does anyone have this set up that can comment on positives or negatives of it?

I can comment on the the flywheel. On the positive your car will accellerate to redline almost instantanously, on the negative you may get clutch chatter. Not everyone gets chatter but if you have it you'll know it.

search for my CM FX200 thread...I did a whole write up on it.

As a follow up to it, 2500 miles later, the clutch is not so defined as it was new. I liked it being defined, now it feels almost exactly like stock. Having not driven stock in a while, its hard to know the difference. But if I were to hop in a Mini for the first time...I couldn't tell you that this wasn't a stock clutch.

Hi DWatkins,
I can tell you about the ACT flywheel. It is a beautiful one piece flywheel. Balanced to 0.00 out of the factory!! I had mine out after about 5k and was still balanced 0.00. I have a SPEC stage II clutch which is a good combo with the ACT. as other pointed out you'll have to expect chatters. Hope that will help. Good luck with your mods

Thanks, that was a good write up. Clutchmaster is looking like the way to go.
