Drivetrain ECU Tune info?
Out of curiosity, I have a somewhat related question: How do the new maps "interact" with the the part of the ECU that does the "learning"?
There is that aspect of the ECU that "learns' your driving style and I wonder how that part of the ECU meshes with the new tuned maps. Thanks.

the work as normal
I don't think there are actually any secrets in this matter...other than exactly how much he is adjusting and exactly where...I've read many threads on this and without asking for secrets...I have a decent idea of it.
Just out of curiosity, not trying to start another gun fight, but Nitro, what secrets are you talking about. I ask because I feel that there is a ton of information on what he does to the ecu. But asking for him to put out detailed info on the actual map he is using is like asking him to publish CAD drawings of his head...it's a silly request. If I am misunderstanding your request, then please be more specific.
He uses his dimsport software and hardware to remap the stock ecu...like the dealership would, except he dynos it between uploads, then changes the paramaters, then another dyno, and repeat...until he feels it is at it's best for the mods present. That is at least my understanding of it. That is in essence the definition of a dyno tune.

Personally I think that ECU tuners at the present be call "practitioners". They do not have all the answers and are not backed by a muti million dollar race program with a team of tuning experts. So you pay them to “practice” on your Mini. Personally I would recommend that you request a pre download of the OEM information on a disc to have as back up in case something happens to the changed perimeters of your ECU or your engine?
There has been events of Dyno tuning experts not getting the results they had hoped on a customers Mini and had shop technicians give advise that seemed to work better then the expert doing the tune.
MTH says that if you have an MTH tune and the MINI dealer gives you an ecu update, you have to send the new file to MTH for adjustment. You can't just reinstall the original tune. So I guess sometimes it is not just a plug and play operation. I had Jan tune the car in Tacoma last month and the improvement over MTH was night and day. I didn't bother to keep any of my MTH files.
You know the word "secret" has many meanings. So I think I will use a different word. Many translations got some what garbled on the net. I was more trying to convey the BMW/MINI ECU has more information available then what has currently been explored by tuners?

Jan has one advantage that even big race teams don't have... and that's shear numbers and experience with different setups (tbh most he prob woudn't chose to work with but the customer is always right). It's safe to say that no other person tuning mini's in the US has seen the sheer number of different mini's with varying mods done. While race teams have experience tuning 1 car to the most minute degree... and that gives them tons of experience, it's not always totally applicable to the majority of people attending a tuning party. Combine the raw experience with the majority of different flavors of DD and street mini's... with the intense forced induction and displacement changes jan is bringing people together to accomplish... and you have some one that is quickly becoming (or already is) the most experienced and accomplished mini tuner/engine builder in the country.
you can say otherwise all you want... but there isn't a single person attacking this market the way jan is. it's just that simple.
p.s. did i mention his stuff is generally cheaper then most everyone else? hmmmmmm...
