how are you getting it fixed under warranty? Usually wear items like a clutch isnt fixed under warranty unless there was a defect? I could be wrong though. 270 BHP would be right around 240 to the wheels...it might hold with that much hp...but with that much hp to the wheels your torque has got to be at least 190 and thats where you might have problems.

When the replace a clutch they replace the flywheel, throwout bearing and pressure plate as well. I had mine replaced under warranty, it all depends on if your dealer is good or not though.

Also, I don't know the answer to your HP question, but I do know that it's torque which kills a clutch, not hp.

I think that around 200ft. lbs is about the max. Of course it all depends on how you drive it and what you are using the car for. El Griton apparently was fine with 200ft lbs, and by the looks of his sig he was having fun too :D

I've talked to Jan on this specific issue, and he also says it is around 200ft lbs. when you start to have some slippage issues. This is NOT saying you will burn up your stock clutch if you have 200ft lbs but that 200ft. lbs and above you should not expect a long living clutch.

think i am firmly in the 200lbs club
for a "wear items like a clutch" will be informing my dealer that i have driven over 750,000 miles and never lost a clutch, mostly fords and toyotas,
my other drive is at 152 k at the moment on original clutch...

If you are really picky, the stock clutch is no good for even a stock MCS. It slips a ton when you really get on it. Mine used to a lot, then didn' slip with my old spec clutch and my mods. Now with the stock clutch again, and my mods still, it slips even more under high load. I hope it can last untill I can afford to replace it with a clutchmaster FX400 or FX500 and a light flywheel. It's been 5,000 agonizing miles with the OEM clutch and I'm tired of it.

jI think it depends how you drive. I am at 56000 mi. Dealer replaced flywheel under warranty at 26000 mi and I paid the $300 for clutch replacement at that time. Since then I've added a little power with Jan's assistance (240hp/190 ft lb.). My clutch does not slip, near as I can tell, even at Streets of Willow. But, I don't drop the hammer and shift relatively slowly. I always try to shift smoothly so clutch is not slipping much at all.

Your mileage may vary.

Of the two MCS's that I've needed to change the clutch on, my '02 was slipping during in-gear acceleration with only 162wLbFt @ 45k miles and my '04 was slipping with 170wLbFt @ 50k miles. This isn't just shifting aggressively but already being in-gear and then stepping on it and having the clutch slipping.

I just replaced my stock clutch for an FX300 at 98,500. I drive hard, I shift hard and I love double clutching...I most likely still had atleast until 100k on my stock clutch plate

Oh, and I tow. 1000 lbs about 3000 mi (Quad and trailer)
Oh and this weekend I towed another MINI off the streets roughly 15 mi. Will never do this again, but I said 'what the hell, im replacing the clutch tomorrow so mine as well go out with a bang and help a buddy out at the same time...' your welcome UKSUV (second time grenading his tranny )

So respect is given to my stock clutch...it now hangs on the wall in the garage. dead center, as a momento for all it has done for me...or lettin me get away with

Wow nice to hear your MINI did tow duty with the stock clutch!

I'd highly recommend buying a new flywheel, since the stock one cannot be resurfaced. If you go to an aftermarket flywheel, be sure to get a sprung clutch.
