Drivetrain Engine swap tips?
Engine swap tips?
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, so if there's a more appropriate forum, I'd appreciate it if a mod would move it.
I recently acquired an '03 MCS with a blown motor. I also acquired a complete '02 MCS dropout drivetrain. I'd like replace the blown motor with the complete '02 engine/tranny package, and was wondering if anyone had any advice.
I've got the Bentley, and I've looked over engine R&R write-up, it doesn't look too bad. Since I have a complete package, I figured rather than simply replacing the engine I'd install the entire assembly. My thoughts were to do something along the line of dropping the subframe out the bottom, and performing the swap that way rather than taking it out the top.
So...
1. Has anyone ever R&R'd a complete drivetrain? Any tips?
2. Can I take the entire package out the top?
3. Can I take the entire package out the bottom?
4. Are there any issues with the '02 and '03 that would make this anything other than plug & play?
5. If I have to take it out the top, any sources for the engine lifting brackets?
6. Any parts that need to be replaced that I may not be thinking of, that I should have in hand before tackling this? Stretch bolts, gaskets, etc?
Thanks in advance for any input.

no need to drop the sub frame. Just take off the front bumper, bumper support then plastic rad shroud with the rad in it. The engine will come right out the front! The entire process can be done in under 20 hours.
20 hours? That's while drinking maybe.
I guess that's fair. I think maybe in half that time. No?
Anyhow, I just want to see your 914/6! One of my favorit track cars. I used to have one a longggg time ago.
PICS!

for some one who doesnt have the expirence, including all the accessory stuff you have to take off/put back on. I'd say it's pretty fair from running/driving car to running/driving car

Agree! Monster 914-6's kill everything when set up properly! I had a 914 2.0 and a 944 turbo with about every mod possible! Both of those are drivers cars!
