Brake Noise?

This post is related to my other recent thread entitled Diagnosis Help. My 2003 MCS has developed a metal to metal groaning sound on start up upon engaging either reverse or first after the car has been sitting for several hours or more, such as overnight in the garage. It goes away rather quickly on driving. I am no good at isolating noises/troubleshooting, and have been concerned that it may be transmission related or brake related. I recently replaced the stock brake components with Powerslot rotors and Hawk HPS pads and the noise appeared a couple of weeks after the change. This was the second brake job that I did with a friend, but the first time using other than stock replacement parts. It has been suggested to me by a road racing friend who also has his own shop that it might be the new aftermarket brake components (different pad compound, slotted rotors, "harmonics") and that since the noise goes away once a little heat is generated and there are no other issues, that it is just an annoying by-product of the aftermarket brake components but should not cause any problems and I may have to learn to live with the noise.

Work and distance from my friend's shop have kept me from getting the car to him, so this suggestion was made over the phone w/o him having a chance to check the car.

Has anyone else had this experience? Does this sound like a correct possible source of the problem? Any other suggestions?

I appreciate any/all responses and your time.

Len

might be a rear caliper hanging up, this would cause the pad to hang on the rotor and may be the cause of the sound. I would remove the rear wheels and inspect the inside pads.

I think I am going to probably re-do the pads and see what happens. I used a liberal amount of anti-squeal - don't know if this would have anything to do with the problem, but I have wondered if that could be the source of the problem.

The noise really is unpleasant and is driving me a bit crazy.
