Problem installing HKS SSQV Blow Off Valve!

Hi there,

I just came back from a visit to Japan, and got myself one of the new HKS SSQV Blow Off Valve. I know used all of the curse words Human kind knows, and bruised all of my hands and knuckles trying to install it!!!

Right now, I just feel like returning the factory one on and just forgetting about it. The factory pipes were a pita to remove due to the tight space and due to the fact that the plastic part of the pipe tends to stick to the rubber hose before the throttle body! DAMN!

I will leave you with the pics for you to decide and see... By the way, I am running a DDM Works Race intake....Which already gives me some kind of blow off valve sound already...

Did you have to mount teh bov on the pipe yourself? Thats where most peeps complain because el cheapo snap ring pliars from pepboys etc dont make it much easier. You need good snap on etc type.

The HKS kit comes complete with the pipe and the BOV installed on it.

Its very well made, but the clearance with the current airbox might not help. HKS opens up the air filter without any enclosed box, increasing the clearance.

Does not compare to an HKS. HKS has a bigger opening so you will notice your turbo recover sooner after a shift. Anything on the factory surgevalve is for sound only, not performance.

Sorry for my late reply,

The kit costs around US $ 550, and I bought it while I was in Japan. The kit is for the Mini R56 specifically.
Check out the following link

I check your link and saw that there is an intake system for our r56. Any idea how much it cost?

Any news on your BOV install? Since that BOV is spefic for our car, looks like i'll take back what I've said in getting a forge BOV. I might just get one for myself hehe

The bov is universal, however they made a pipe for the kit. All the hks bov are the same just that they make specific model kits. HKS is one of the best bov out and one of the first ones ever. Its also unique as it has dual valves build in, one opens at low load, both open at higher load.

I'm interested also. Who sells this HKS BOV setup kit for the R56?

I the dual HKS BOV's on my twin turbo 300ZX and I love the sound. Would be great to hear this on the MINI.

Hector at the Exhaust Depot offers the same thing for less money and you can have it made in any color you want. Oh and you dont have to speak Japanese to order from him.

This sound cools when you are stock but once you tune your car and runs higher boost it su**s. It goes in limp mode all the time.

FernFlex, Didn't you upgrade your internals from the Audi or VW. I did the switch and I used the one from the Audi A3 with 260 HP. once I did I couldn't here the sound as much as before. Have you had the same experience?

Where did you get your water mister?

YOu found some one to tune your car? Sweet! There is a setting in many piggy backs like emanage, AEM FIC etc that called anti-stall or off throttle settings. YOu can go into this map setting to setup for the throttle off which is when the bov cycles.

That links says it cost $525.00, surely that cant just be for the bov ?

On another note i have the exhaust depot hardpipe/hks bov on my gt28rs setup and i can say it runs perfectly and sounds brilliant. Fitting couldnt be easier

Just ordered mine from E.D.! Some of those pics above look like the kit from Japan won't even fit without hitting something hard with a hammer!

I currently have an Alta boost tube on my cold side, but after it started rubbing on one of my valve cover screws I decided that it must go. It's fixed with some rubber on the screw now, but the part should fit without issue! Everyone that has Exhaust Depot's setup installs with no problems and works great. I cannot wait to get that Alta pipe off my R56.

Actually, the hard part was getting the stock tubes off. Installing the HKS BOV was a snap...

I am going the cheaper way. I've already purchased my HKS SQV Black Limited Edition BOV and just had the 2 rubber and plastic hosed measured so a S/S hose can be fabricated and powder coated black. Could you please share with me the HKS instructions for installation as well as their recommended point and how to tap the intake manifold for the vacuum hose.
i am considering getting the ALTA Boost Port as i do not wish to drill any holes.

Thank you!
