Dohhh,
I guess that's one of the benefits of being closer to the 'source'...our systems are somewhere on a UPS truck cruising through Oklahoma on there way to us in OHIO!!

I feel like a kid on Chirstmas eve!

Can't wait to see what this system can do..as do LOTS of other people.

Now if I can just move to the Westssssiiiide to get closer to all my suppliers, that would nice.

Well, I finally got a chance to photograph this system and so far it looks VERY good, I have yet to install it, but have high hopes for it.
Check out the newest Pics:

http://outmotoring.com/alta_sportone...s_exhaust.html

I have not had any time to put this one on, after having the car "fixed" -YES, I finally got rid of the stumble with the newest and unreleased software direct from MINI!. Check out the post on the "under the bonnet" section. And now I gotta finish putting in the new wood flooring and trim in the house before I can install it...but I may be able to sneak away from the wife for a few minutes to test fit it...stumblestumble

Looks can be deceiving, Carl. I believe I asked the same question a while back. No - they are not the same system.

*****!!!! Does it ever end? I don't need to spend anymore money on my Mini S right now. I just painted the Aero and the Flares, but that Alta exhaust sure looks good.
Oh well I'll feel better once I'm on the road.

I poosted this review on a different thread but I thought there was some good info in previous posts that would relate to what I have written...sorry for being over-redundant

I've lived with the Alta system for nearly two weeks now and am very impressed with it so far. The sound is absolutely perfect in my mind. It's got a mean low, serious, throaty, yet smooth sound all the way through the RPM Range. The tips on my system hang just fine, in fact they look great. They fill that cut out on the bumper and really make the back end look mean. The interior noise is very minimal and at cruising speeds it's shockingly quiet, no resonating, droning or anything. Just slightly louder and deeper than stock...until you punch the throttle, then it wakes up.

The actual construction is pretty solid, good welds, nice thick flange plates and nice oval rolled Stainless tips. Everything went in fine as far as the install, however the factory skid plate does not fit on like it does on other aftermarket systems. It seems that the actual muffler interferes with it, so it must be left off, which is no big deal. The only gripe I have with the system is that due to the way that it's laid out, the force of air as it exits the muffler makes the left tip get nearly all the air flow and carbon build up. This is due to the fact that air is going to take the path of least resistance, which is to favor the left pipe, especially under load. If you look at the system you will see how the exit pipe bends and transitions into the "u" shaped tip unit. That is one of the reasons why the oval tip/boxster tip Quicksilver system has been more popluar as opposed to two singles that they explored with about 6 months ago. Anyway, the Alta system sounds soooo good that I can overlook that. It looks great and sounds just right (for me at least). It's in the same ball park as the Borla (not the race version). Much quieter than the Magnflow. Interior volume is quieter than the Magnaflows, Borlas and Quicksilver I've heard. If I get a chance I will try to get a sound clip.

Exhaust can give a nicer note to your car, but if $$$ is at all a concern. IMHO, a good intake (like the Alta) and a pulley are the best "bang for the buck"

I agree! And with a little DIY starting with the OEM straight pipe I bet a DIYer could get real close to the same performance and at just over half of what Helix is charging not to knock them I think their Mod is fairly priced, running a business is EXPENSIVE overhead is the killer.
I do like the idea and design it's just maintaining those centered tips.
We will see

Yes, the full evaluation is here (a good read)
http://www.webbmotorsports.com/forum...sc&start=0

Some highlights:
A 2.5", single sided (passenger side muffler), twin tip piece with a straight through muffler design
Very light weight at 22 pounds and no drone at all.
Exhaust note similar to the Quicksilver and NRP systems - with a "whooshy" sound, quiet.
At the dyno - 8 hp and 5 ft/lbs of torque peak over the entire rpm range
Some fitment issues with the eval unit-required cutting
On future units, both the tips will be heat treated to give a uniform color, and the original units can use a propane torch to color the unused right tip.

I did get a ####sound clip#####posted about a month ago, sorry I forgot to post it here. There's a link to it near the top of the page.

http://outmotoring.com/How_to_altaexhaust.htm

One thing everyone should be aware of as that under load all the air flow goes to one side, to remedy this Alta is going to heat treat and paint the insides of BOTH tips so there's a better match. Another note is that at WOT the force or air exiting the left pipe has a sort of jet engine sound, which is a different sound, and after time (a month) tends to blend in more with the exhaust sound, but you will always get that 'whooooosh' kinda sound, at least from the inside of the cabin. I thnk it'sa result of the air running through the pipe with such force that its creating a vacuum out of the right pipe or its running so fast that as it goes through the transition to the tip (U-shaped with the inlet at the bottom of the U) it's creating that sound. I would say that they tip design and overall fit and finish along with the tips being heat-matched will make this system much more desirable. On the two that I've dealt with the fit and install was near perfect, the tips hung right, looked great and sounds perfect at idle and around town cruising speeds. It's the WOT that gets the jet engine sound, which most people really like. Overall it's a good system, just 's needed the tip issue fixed (the one that's being resolved by heating both and painting the insides with a Black high-temp paint) The newest batch coming from Alta will have this done, from what Alta has said.

"It's the WOT that gets the jet engine sound, which most people really like."

Does anyone have a sound clip of this "jet engine sound"? Is it louder than the sweet sound of the supercharger?

Thanks,

Paul.
