I had my JCW 380cc injectors installed today and the tech is trying to sell me to have the DME of the ECU reset and install the JCW software for about $160. I turned down the offer and told him that it will be dyno tuned by Jan of RMW in 3 weeks.
Can somebody explain to me what DME stands for and its function?

DME/ECU (Engine Control Unit)..same difference. Depends what make and model car you have. Anything that is engine related runs through it...everything else pretty much runs through your GM (General Module). Whenever you have a tune done (this case by Jan)...your altering parameters of the ECU.

 

DME is for Digital Motor Electronics. It is BMWs acronym for engine control unit ( ECU ). Your vehicle ( depending on model R53,R56 etc. have alot different modules ) and like UKSUV stated the DME is responsible for engine operation.

 

Thanks. The car is running alright but would like to take it easy until the RMW tune. Running hard with the Shark 93 and 380 injector right now will surely be rich and make less HP.
