Intercooler Cover/Diverter project

Whats up everybody. Ok well I have been looking around for an alta IC diverter... My plastic one broke while i was installing the IC sprayer so it kinda looks bad..
So I have decided I'm just going to make one. I'm going to use fiberglass since i think it will resist heat a little better. and I'll be able to add my own custom touch to the engine bay. I'm going to buy 8 little computer fans and install them under the cover....just kidding.

anyway Its just going to be a cover.. but it will go all the way down to little plastic part where the weather stripping is by the radiator. Also it will have a seal that comes up and seals right aginst the hood in hopes to trap all the air comming in the scoop... here is my "design" drawings.. it probably one look this cool...but its fun to play..

any ideas??

thanks

Nice concept you have there . Doing in in glass should be a plus wit hregards to heat as you mentioned. the sealing is going to be the important part to get the most out of it . Keep us informed

As long as you have a downward-facing 45-degree angle at the back, to divert air coming in from the bonnet scoop over the vanes of the intercooler...

(Matching the ALTA design)...

Then, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

yes, it's a one off from FORGE. The IC is raised in the back to allow better exit flow and then the scoop is tapered towards the back to pressurize the air above the IC sooner as well as direct it. Helps minimize the hood seal , reducing leakage areas. Works quite well.

I've gone threw a bunch of ICs and if I had to do it all over again, I would have built something like this for the stocker and called it a day.

any chance you could snap a few more pictures?

i'd be interested in trying to do something like this for my stock i/c and scoop.
i made an airbox out of some sheet metal that was similar to the ARC box for my delsol. used rivets to hold it all together, worked well.

this seems like it would be fairly simple.

4 pics in gallery

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...y.php/cat/2013

You will note that these pics where before I had it all welded up.

I added a "mister" sprayer that puts out very little water and the thought was that I could turn it on and leave it on for autox or Q mile runs.

I've gone threw 4 ICs and this one lowers temps the most w/ the least pressure drop. Regardless of the IC, air management is the key. An IC scoop like this just ensures no leakage - air the goes in must pass thru the IC.
