Ok, my friend just got the new Nissan 350 Z roadster.

Once my mini and her Nissan were broken in we were thinking of finding where we could see who was faster (her stock I will have the VIPER Carbon fibre Cold Air Induction Kit, and Nology spark plug wires.).

We did also want to see if there was a place that we could test this legal and safe.

Any bets/advice etc?

If you want to win, find an AutoX course nearest you. Also is it a MINI Cooper or an S?

MINI's aren't drag racers.

Unless you have a moded s, and shed some pounds, forget about a straight line. A 350Z has about 11.5 weight to hp ratio... Quite respectable. I have mine at about 11.8 now. When I was in the mid 12's with this ratio, I encountered one, and he had me fairly easily. When I ran into another in the canyon where I live, it was a whole new ball game

With 240 to 250hp seeming quite realistic these days, and with a weight of 2,333 (I should be there), that is very nice sub 10# that puts the MCS in very elite company.

I had the good fortune of going up against one today (twice) from two succesive stop lights.
Buuttt---the guy would shut off as we were winding up in second gear.
We were dead even... but I felt I could pull him.
Also neither of us was into snapping drive shafts or smokin the tires at the start.
It was more of a very quick rolling start---nothing wheelspinnin' and that may have favored me. (I don't launch to well anyway)
I wondered why he quite each time? His car had lots left.
I don't consider I trounced him at all, but I was hanging just fine.
I'll bet he didn't expect that!!

Ya, I figured, but still to race a cool chick friend, sometimes you can win if you loose.

Damn that car of hers is fun to ride in top down.

Still I'll take my Mini any day.

In a drag race, she wins, but in a "motoring" race the MC wins every time.

Gust can't get in a Z and say "Let's Motor", it's more like "Let's Fly".

I'm in a Cooper not an S BTW.

The thing though is that she does not wanna get anything at all done to hers, and mine will be modded b4 I even drive it the first time.

A non-S cooper will be impossible to take a 350Z. I mean the cooper was not designed to be racing cars like that. S's will have enough trouble down a straight.

Put a turbo on a base Cooper and it'll still lose. However, its all for fun so I guess it doent really matter who wins...

you will never be able to launch a mini like a drag car... unless you reprogram the software and totally void the warranty. It has a launch stall due to the software. Oh yea... and replace the drive by wire gas peddle.

Yfoiler,

Having ridden in your car, and been in a Z (driving and passenger) I'd have to say you have 'em beat. (It's seat of the pants, but the Z I drove had a new intake, borla exhaust & yours still felt faster.)

I went driving in the mountains with a bunch of folks in Z's--great, fun cars, but I'll hang on to the MINI.

Jeff

If you are planning a straight drag race, you will lose everytime. Sorry. These cars are best in the twisties, autocross, or a track that doesn't have very long straights. Besides, anyone with a fast car can floor it, real driving is where the Cooper shines, and is more fun to drive.

Yes, find some twisties. I was being tailed by a Z and a 330Ci sport the other night and decided to see how daring they were around some corners. Now, I only have euforios but frankly, only the Z could keep up! The 330 was having *minor* issues hanging in there. Of course, my tires were whaling but I didn't car! I loved it!

I deal with 3 mild straights (just soft bends) about 1/4 of mile for each one that overall comprise just over 15 or so miles in some great mountain and canyon driving where I live. When I first got my MCS, M3s, AMGs, 911's, Viper (singular) etc would gain so much on me in those straights that my cornering in the twisties didn't mean squat And, he was driving solo!

A couple days later, I met an M3 on a nice straight within city limits, no other cars, and it brought me back to reality. The course means EVERYTHING.
