Such a discussion wouldn't be complete without mention of sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries. It seems that all or at least all that I'm aware of who have gone this route, have chosen an SLA battery.

While somewhat dated now I suppose (heck, I did this project a long time ago!), I found this guy's info very helpful:

http://www.stealth316.com/2-dynabatt.htm

Within, he states: "As noted above, all SLA batteries have one very serious drawback, they do not like heat."

It degrades the electrolytes, speeding-up the discharge time. I figured that I'd do all that I can do to put it in a more desirable location. I undercoated the aluminum plate with a material that should help and also with sound deadening in the cabin.

Are you really still running that thing in your race car?

Well, we test fitted the 2.5D/4.5D/19L muffler post Milltek resonator & OEM exhaust manifold on another vehicle.......holy crap, the car is loud!! Everything in the car was vibrating (15mph-68mph) & 3,500rpm was absolute pandemonium. Once you got up to 70mph (speed limit in this zone) the sound was kinda bearable, but 'dang!!!'. We drove <5miles & after that we were pretty much tone deaf. I'm having Coast Fabrication put together a custom 2.5D/6.25D/19L muffler to help & maybe run em' in series. I'll keep y'all posted.

Note: The car this is going on has a header & Supersprint resonator/pipe, so this should get interesting.

I saw this coming . When I had the 3" duel burns system I hated it. Unfortunatly all your going to get out of another muffler is a lighter wallet.

Unless one is using an SPL meter, loudness is a relative, subjective thing...

As with Longboard, I too was thinking that it might be too loud with that muffler.

Bends/turns do knock-down the db's, and I feel that this might be one more reason to want to bend back down from the tunnel's elevation gain. I do this within the muffler itself (offset), and I think this aids further in quieting it more...

Keep us posted.

Welcome to the club! I'm still waiting for my version 3-b, which should be back in a couple of weeks. Could it be my imagination, but my car seems even louder with the new cam installed...?

If you need to quiet down that exhaust while still keeping it large OD and keeping a high flow muffler on it, PM me. I found a company that makes a very nice resonator that fits our cars perfectly and still flows an incredible amount of air.

You know Phil, working on the concept that an engine is an air pump, if output is increased, as it should be with an aftermkt cam, more air is moving, CFM's are up... so would be the noise, I would think. I'm guessing it's not our imagination.

With a turbo at least, there is plenty of muffling by virtue of the path. There are several reasons for some to call in quits in the quest for even more power, and the increase in sound is certainly one...

Alright gang, I'm getting closer. My H&R/RDR's are getting swapped out for my KW/TSW's & then the car's going over to Hypertech Pipes here in Fresno/CA for the exhaust install. I had another muffler made by Coast Fabrication, 2.5D/6.25D/19L to run in series with my 2.5D/4.5D/19L, so I think I might have solved my noise problem. I got my ProMini/Supersprint shipment today- Italian stainless goodness. It'll be on the car in <2 weeks, so I'll keep y'all posted. Wish me luck.

Dr. Phil...who makes those control arms and how do you like them?
I was thinking about getting Eibach rear control arms, I think they are the same you have just with Eibach stamp. Check this link

They sure look the same, but mine are called SRP.
They are much cheaper at Jegs (or were).
Check out the big thread comparing/discussing control arms on the suspension forum--these did not fare well in that, but I love them (they control the movement of the wheels as needed).

btw, Fracky --- good luck!!!

I know this isn't the thread about superchargers verses turbos...but just to keep the pot hot, I got word today that the muffler and resonator is shipping out and will be here at week's end if all goes well with Brown.
I can't wait to see what Juston did...

Alright guys, I think we might have a winner. The Supersprint resonator & center pipe + 2 Coast Fabrication (Coast Fabrication) custom mufflers in series --4.25"D/19"L & 6.5"D/19"L-- have a mid-way between stock & JCW exhaust tone w/ zero drone. Dr.Steve (Custom MINI Shop) is doing an awesome job on the install & I'll keep you posted on prolonged impressions after the final tweaks are made.

exhaust

Sounds pretty expensive. I know of a cheaper and quieter option.

Hey badhogan, would you be referring to something like this?

The Helmholtz resonator sure works to reduce droning, but it still barks at WOT.

That is quite a setup. Very nice, Phil.
Any pics from the front side?

Barking at WOT is fun but the 3k-4k RPM drone is the ear bleeder has the helmholtz made it more livable.

Looks pretty damn awesome Phil.

So, are you keeping this one? Is the exhaust system done?

The drone has been reduced considerably, for sure. I can't say it's eliminated as that's almost impossible without tuning the resonator in real time, but Juston got it pretty close, and it's certainly better than anything I've had to date.

...and yes, I think I'm pretty much done with the straight exhaust thingy.

So would you say if anyone with the dough all they need to do is call up juston and he will make his masterpiece straight through exhaust.
