I did this over the weekend--with great success! It really is quite simple and the new 11lb Braille is in place, all the wiring back on and looking quite normal. Of course there's a giant gaping hole under the rear center of the car, to be filled with a straight exhaust as soon as I can get around to it--it's just hard to choose a muffler and tips. I was thinking about the C5 split-oval tips just for something completely different.

I have an all Burns Stainless straight through system all planned out.
All 3in for my future plan of going turbo-only
2.5" to 3" reducer Adapter
2x 12"
1x 8" with a 1 to 2 base merge collector for my tip out the back

Dude, I've had my Ireland Engineering on roughly 6-7 months now, and I feel you. Not complaining abot the IE, because I really love it, but now this project has caught my attention again!!! I say again, because Tony B in here did this same mod a while back and did an incredible right up on it.

As promised: Stage I Remove battery box and relocate battery.
Step one: Get rid of this ugly thing:

Do this with a 4" cutting disc on an angle grinder:

Now seal and rivet a Al plate over the hole and locate the new battery. In this case a 11lb Braille.

I made a bracket to hold it down, tightened up all the wiring, and replaced the boot liner with a cutout:

Finally cover it up with something. In my case I use acoustic foam as it quietens road and exhaust noise and doesn't weigh a lot. I will eventually put a piece of carpet over it to make it look nicer.

Stage II: the straight exhaust!

Wow, that is really good. I was concerned thinking the battery would actually be inside the cabin, but it's no more in there than the stock location. Thanks for the pictures. Great job. One question though. Looking at your pictures, I take it the Braille batteries can be mounted sideways. Thanks again or sharing the pictures. Awesome job so far.

Yes, the Braille are sealed and can be mounted in any orientation--in fact they come with two post options so that the posts are vertical in either the side mount like mine, or the vertical mount (which would be if you mounted it in the engine bay in a normal car, I guess). If you were willing to do some rewiring, you could put the battery almost anywhere. Randy of M7 put a 14lb Braille behind the passenger seat. I was thinking of doing that as my seats don't move, but the stock location was just too easy. I don't carry a lot of stuff in my car, so losing the little depression to the foam is a small inconvenience.
I'm going to talk to a muffler shop tomorrow about making a custom section. Everyone I talk to says custom is the only way to go as there just aren't any pre-fabbed options. I think this mod is so rare that there's no real market for a kit.
Of course, you know where I'm headed with this...
diffusers !!

To keep Fatherdeth and others up to date:
I saw my local muffler guy yesterday and have ordered the following:

Flowmaster Corvette C6 tips 3.5" slight oval pair.

Flowmaster Super 44 muffler. 2/5" in and out (single).
I found some Porsche Boxster split oval tips, but they were $360. Ouch...

this is AWESOME!!! I've been planning on doing this for a while now, and actually had that battery in mind, I took some measurements and thought about just making the box more shallow, so it would still fit under the floor, but this seems a lot easier. my goal was to allow for a straight exhaust, but with plans to add something like the M7 funnels
thanks a lot. Now I HAVE to do this and spend the money on a battery
anyone wanna buy a 2 yr old stock battery?

Nah, I'm so impatient I'm going to have them welded on the muffler next Friday (!) Maybe some of that BBQ black paint. Anyone know how much heat the PlastiCoat will handle?
I think on the can Plast-dip says 200 deg. but someone did the joey mod w/ it and baked it at 230 w/ no adverse effects. I had the ALTA stealth exhaust and the paint started chipping off, so I sprayed a little bit of regular black spray paint on the tip, but it was just a small area on the outer rim, but I haven't experienced any trouble since, but there are all sorts of high heat paints available

If a small battery like the Braille B14115 was rated for cold climates, I would have done this mod years ago.
