Drivetrain Total Out Performance!!
I want to know what are the best performance parts for the Cooper S. I think the MagnaFlow exhaust, the Alta intake are the best from ezhausts and intkaes. I want to know what the best brands are for the following
1)Exhaust
2)Intake
3)ECU upgrade
4)Pulleys and
5)if avaliabe turbo or supercharger

"Best" is a relative term. It all depends on what you define as important.
For example- is the Magnaflow exhaust best? Yes-if you want loudness and relatively more power and moderate price. No if you don't want so much loudness, possible droning at highway speeds, and you don't like large twin exhaust tailpipes.
That is why there are so many choices for upgrades like exhausts. Each one has relative advantages and disadvantages. There is no one clear best for the MCS. I have the quicksilver and like it alot. Would I change to Magnaflow? Nope. I have no reason to. The Quicksilver looks good to me, gives me enough HP gains, sounds fine to me, and weighs half the amount of the stock exhaust. Is it the "best" nope- it's expensive, has a single oval tailpipe (that some people like or not) and is not readily available (can't really get it as easily-locally- due to being made in England).
>>1)Exhaust
Many choices here- search the exhaust threads- lots of opinions. No clear winner. Depends on what is important to the buyer. Availability varies and prices vary somewhat. Best to find someone who owns and MCS with the exhaust you like and listen to it and get their feedback.
>>2)Intake
Although the Alta intake is a good choice it is certainly not the only choice. Price, stealthyness and looks are all factors as are HP gain and match with other upgrades. Many of the designs are quite similar with mostly superficial differences.
For some people the drop in filters are a good choice- low cost, easy to install, easy to change and least likely to void your intake warranty.
>>3)ECU upgrade
Many choices but somewhat limited in the US. Maybe later more will get here. See MCSHP.org for the details. Right now RandyBMC has a good ECU upgrade for about $690. Check out the other threads on this.

>>4)Pulleys and
Pulleys- there are two types. See the past threads on this. The Alta type is more popular and relatively low cost. 1-2 hours labor. Need a pulley tool to do it.
>>5)if avaliabe turbo or supercharger
The MCS is an intercooled supercharged engine. No commercial turbos are yet available for US purchase- some are in development. A better upgraded supercharger? I'm sure someone is developing one but I think the cost could be high.
Other upgrades- Lots of choices. Check out the thousands of posts in the performance modifications topic section of MCO. We have discussed these for a long time.
Some upgrades that are possible but not mentioned:
Throttlebody-larger rebore
Exhaust Header- with ceramic coating or sport Cat
Suspension upgrades- coil overs, springs, rear and front swaybars, tower strut brace
rear control arms, etc.
Wheel upgrades- larger rims, lighter weight, track vs street tires
Cylinder Heads- some in the works- expensive
Lightweight Flywheels
Brake upgrades- Lots of options
Limited Slip differential- Quaife- about $999 plus labor
Aero body kits-
Rally lights-
Interior gauges-
Sport seats and harnesses
Rollbars
On and On and On.

Thanks a lot! Can you tell me the company that is planning to make the turbo charger for the New Mini? My defention for best is what gains the most horsepower. About the intake and exhaust i meant what has the best hp gain and tourque gain. By the way how much hp did your exhaust give you?
MadMini,
Not to be mean here or anything, but
a) use the search function
b) dont post multiple subjects that could be combined into one
Why do you want a turbo for your S anyways? I dont like turbos personally. Gotta wait for the gas to build up, which means lag. Unless you've got a small one, which means less power.
