Drivetrain best cam for mpg?
best cam for mpg?
about to upgrade to a ported head and doing cost / benifit on cam
any opinions on which cam is best formpg when crusing?
would it be OEM, or a schrik type cam which delvers more umph at higher revs, or RMW type cam that delivers lower down the rev range ?
is the overlap the critical factor in mpg?
is their a relationship between torque and mpg?
if i have more torque lower down the rev range is it more efficient,
looking at 70mph cruise for uk, if i drive 55mph 30mpg is easy even with over 200 whp at the moment
so thinking leaner burn is better for mpg, but too lean will kill my engine
can i have my cake and eat it?
i can't get my head around the engineering involved,
or is it just trial and error
05 MCS ported head + 17% pully + CAI + cool plugs+ big intercooler etc etc

I'm pretty sure our ECUs run a stoich mixture while crusing and that of course will not cause issues as we're not taxing our motors and creating tons of heat(even with a different camshaft).
Contact Jan as it seems like he's tuned MINIs with all sorts of camshafts. He could have a solution for you!
I've put on about 100 miles with my Ultrik camshaft. Part throttle cruising, plus a squeeze of the right foot there seems to be a torque loss. Under boost things seem goooooooood. Maybe I'll get a stiffer BPV spring. Hmmm.

The only reason I say this is because all of the aftermarket cams have a focus on "performance" whether its top end or mid range improvement. NONE factor in MPG or focus on MPG.
The irony is that the single most important MPG factor of any car is the driver.

Mileage.. vs HP!! Yep.. the stock cam is the way to go.. I feel. Head?? Keep the runners realistic and the valve size small.. to promote high cylinder filling and good low end numbers.. cool??
