Madness JCW Filter & Cowl Mod

I while back I bought a Mini Madness JCW air filter, but never installed it or performed the flap mod...

I'd like to hear if anybody thinks it's worth my while to install it and perform the mod or if I should just sell the filter...

I think I asked this question before, but didn't get too much response. Will try again. Thanks in advance....

The engine gets all the air it can use at lower RPM, i.e. before the flap opens, so making the flap permanently open is pointless, unless you like whining noises (my advice: get a wife instead).

It's as good as any other CAI on the market, iff you use the Mini-Madness filter in it.

Well, I installed the filter and did the flap mod cuz I had nothing better to do and was very curious. The install was very quick and simple. It took me maybe 30 minutes. The instructions were very good. I would only add that the reason for pushing back before pulling up on the JCW airbox lid is because there are two latches in the back that need to be cleared otherwise it will get snagged on those. Well, according to my one and only, and very expensive I might add, butt sensor:

1. There is greater throttle response in the low end and going from 1st to 2nd and to 3rd seems to be smoother.

2. The whine is slightly louder (which I like even with a wife and a 3 year old). I feel like the whine volume is where it should be

Overall, I feel it is worth my time and the money!

I installed the Mini Madness filter and removed all of the flap hardware. What I recall was a 1.5 HP increase measured with my G-Tech.

I feel that the whine from the supercharger is louder...i haven't noticed if anything else is louder...i don't think she burbles more than usual.

I've also noticed that I can hear what I believe is the fuel injector alot more at lower RPM's. It's kind of like a metalic hiss when I step on the gas.

I did the Madness filter and flap mod. It definitely whines more at low rpm, so yes a little louder. It also felt as if there was a little better low rpm throttle response, just a little. However, at low rpm I seem to need all I can get so I noticed it.

Overall, I happy with the JCW airbox and the Madness upgrade to it.

Mini-Madness has some instructions on removing the flap. I also removed all the associated hardware and blocked the resulting hole. The result of removing everything is like the JCW Motorsports edition of the air box.

If you ask George directly whether the flap mod will make any power, I'm pretty sure he'll say Nope.

It's just a sounds-louder, must-be-faster mod...

LOL

The wife is a lot more expensive and requires more maintenance.
