Drivetrain One ball mod
Im not really finding anyone who has done the one ball set up but changed the muffler to a magnaflow or borla or similar..... Anyone with any luck going that route? I figured run that but keep it on the passenger side for better weight distribution with a driver in the car.
If you get one made for a different car just make sure the dimensions will be right but in the end you will be doing more welding than it's likely worth right? You will need the tail weld for exit, a hangar, and the inlet weld. One ball stock rocks but I am waiting for the dreaded drooping I have read about w/o that second hangar support. I'll ride it 'til it drops...
for a different spin on the one-ball, I upgraded the pipe from the cat all the way back with 2.5" ss. Installed a OBX header and a Magnaflow 2.5" cat. Still used a stock muffler on the left side. It's been a little over a year now and still sounds good.
I got a 2.5" Borla Pro XS in the mail today, monday im gonna cut the stock system off in front of the first muffler and adapt it to 2.5 and just put a turn down at the end of the muffler.. guessing itll be LOUD but hopefully a nice deep tone.
I got this mod done yesterday and I'm very satisfied with the results.
BUT, exhaust tip is shifted to the left side...I think it's because the weight of the right ball is gone.
I've looked under the car and noticed that I can't do much because the left ball is just hanging there with a rubber attachment. I can't center the exhaust just by pushing it because it just returns because it's just hanging there.
Anybody else notice this problem? If so how did you fix it? How WOULD you fix it?

Is your new pipe elbow bolted in with clamps or welded? If clamped, maybe one of the 'legs' of the pipe is a little long. You might be able to loosen the clamps and adjust it. If welded, you might be stuck unless you want to cut one weld and adjust it. Obviously, center the tips and hold in place before re-tightening the clamps or re-welding.

I wouldn't even worry about it. It is a cheap mod and it not being mandrel bent is not going to affect performance on your car.
The one ball can become a better performer by replacing the OEM flange end piece, its tubing necks down to less than 2 inch ID 1.5 inch past the two-hole flange, a 2.25 ID section of tubing on an aftermarket flange is far less restrictive. For the daily driver, the sound is easier to live with if the replacement flange is incorporated with a resonator. The sound from a straight through perforated resonator and the chambered OE muffler is very nice.
I had a one-ball and was always a fan of it. You cant beat how cheap it costs to do. Sounds great from the outside after I added an OBX header.
BUT...about 25k miles later, it began rattling really bad. The hanger was actually broken and the rubber mounts that hold the muffler up were shot. It is too much weight to have hanging from one side. Also, after I lowered my car, I noticed that it slanted slightly toward the drivers side (the side with the one-ball muffler). It baffled me as to why, thought the springs were installed incorrectly, but after many re-checks by various people...they were fine. When I installed my Invidia though...the slant was gone! It was caused by the weight of the one-ball all being on one side. Just something to keep in mind!

The resonator that was cut out of the system had one
Only makes sense to put one back in yes ?
I believe he is speaking of the prefabricated pipe bends are "crinkled" at the elbows....as apposed to a piece of pipe bent in a machine......most shops like Meineke have the machine to bend pipes but some do have 90 degree pre bent sections which have the crinkle elbows which would be considered a "hack install".
It should be noted for everyone doing a "One Ball Mod' that a hanger rod be fabricated on the passenger side to bring the pipes back to center, and to help support the system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
