Drivetrain Alta CAI Install Issue - What am I missing?
SOLVED: Alta CAI Install Issue - What am I missing?
Hey all you Alta CAI users out there: I just installed a used intake, and noticed when I was almost done that there is a large gap at the bottom left of the air box where the Alta metal meets the stock air box bottom.
I can see a line where there used to be something there to fill that gap, but what? Obviously that gap lets in hot air, kinda defeats the purpose of the "Cold" Air Intake, no?
Oh, this is an '02 MCS.
Thanks for your help.
Here are pictures:
First Pic: See 1" Gap at left, circled in red

2nd Pic: Closeup of gap.

There is a "short" trim or gasket piece that fills that gap. It should be included with the intake kit...
If you don't have it ... Contact ALTA, and I am sure they can help provide it...
It wont be a big deal to run without it for a little while.. The intake will pull some of the engine bay hot air in through there... But it wont hurt anything..
Hope that helps,
BBCooper

Ye who has "Bend" in his name should not make jokes...
Regarding "smportis" - Yea, yea, not the most creative name, but keeps me from having to remember too many user ids (as long as I can remember my own name). I should think of something fast - like "ScottPassingScottinBend."

Thanks for the help guys - I will use the extra trim from the removed cowling. I couldn't figure out if that was all that was needed, or if I'd misread the instructions and re-mounted the box bottom too far to the right.

Ok, tried the extra trim piece left over from removing the cowling, and it did not fill the gap. I'm contacting ALTA to help.
Thus far, I've left them a phone message, posted a request for help on the ALTA thread herein, and sent them 2 emails, one to "sales" and one to Ken Jubb in sales. First two items were strikeouts. We shall see if either of the emails hit gold.

Hi Scott,
Anytime you need help PLEASe feel free to e-mail me directly. (Not saying the others won't go un-answered) We just need to send you a 90 deg style molding.
Did you buy it new from us? It says "used" up above. If the seller didn't provide it to you, there will be a small charge for the molding, (to cover shipping etc. The part itself isn't expensive.) or you could but the molding at a local auto parts store. Should run about $2 a foot.
Let me know!

Thank you. I have gotten in touch with Ken J in sales and he has been working with me today. He said he'd ship me the 90 degree molding for $2.25 per foot (I did indeed purchase it used from a private 3rd party).
I copied you on an email that I sent Ken this evening.
