This is the Turbo header that supersprint and promini developed never made it to manufacturing stages.

Yes I did. Schedule 10 304L stainless TIG welded then ground smooth for excellent airflow and low turbulence. It took about 20 hours of labor to fabricate, not including the lengthy design time or ceramic coating. With this "very short merge" manifold I was able to get a 3700 RPM boost threshold from a GT2871R-15 on a stock long block, very respectable.

P.S. mild steel studs with copper nuts are a no-no with stainless! I ended up finding out the hard way you need your thermal expansion coefficients to match very closely. I ended up using stainless studs with stainless castle style lock-nuts. Also not shown in the above picture is the woven-kevlar heat shielding over the water lines.

i believe because thermal expansion usually cracks header and downpipe.. and i don't think he wants to crack his, espcially a custom piece of art!

great work! wish i can turbo my car

Yes that is correct; the flanges are sectioned between cylinders to account for very subtle distortions over the thermal range. You can visualize it because the primary lengths are different shapes and lengths and will expand differently.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Hey Ryan, long time no speaky....

Who made your exhaust flange and is it SS? I've been waiting 2 months for mine to get made after I made the cad file. I have it ported to match the RMW head. I got tired of waiting and found another shop that whipped me out a few, but its in mild steel which will probably work better anyways. Just curious.....my project is going waaaaay to slow. I am in the process of opening a shop and moved everything over last month to the new facility. I already have more work than I can get to at the moment, but at least the engine and tranny are back in!

Nice work Ryan . I'm looking forward to your build as I know this is a labor of love for you.

So it sounds like it's in the car and running???

how about getting a top mount made up?? then you could spec it how you wanted. i think twin scroll/divided hosuings could work really well and help lower spool times.

as for turbo choice how about the stock EVO turbo?? these things are cheap, spool faster than a GT28R, make well over 400WBHP on an EVO (thats with the 4WD!!!), and loads of guys are selling them.....

also there was a Ti version of the trugbo with even faster spool.

worth a thought.

Chris.

--->Chris and Longboard: That project is long gone now; that was back in '05-'06. The car was totaled in a horrible accident in which I'm thankful to be alive. The turbo project portion was a big success; using a Johnny Racecar intercooler I stuffed behind the front bumper [had to toss the A/C to make it fit], and with a GT2871R-15 I had a 3700 RPM boost threshold, using the stock ECU with a hacked UNIchip and several custom signal modifiers, Turbosmart eboost2 and PLX wideband O2. I averaged 31mpg around town and my best dyno was 318wHP at 7k RPM at 21psig on 100 octane unleaded. All while using a Magnaflow Catalytic converter and the factory evaporative emissions equipment.

--->TrickleX: Yo dude! I took a stock header and cut the flange off of it! It's only 3/8" 409 stainless, but close enough for government work. I have another stock flange sitting around if you need one, however it still has about 6" of primary on it, so you'll need to trim them off.
