hey do you need to buy a new cable when you purchase the scan gauge II. does the R56S need a special cable? what are you guys using out there.

 

Hi Engine 58, I purchased the ACTRON CP9175 AutoScanner for OBDII Post 1996 vehicles from Pet Boys. You can get it a lot cheaper than what I paid for it if you shop online. I just had to get it when I installed my ECU and did not shop around for best price, rather closest auto supply store!

It comes with OBD II compliant cable attached. Its Plug and Play. It automatically scans and displays code once its plugged into the socket with the ignition on. The auto battery powers it and it was my first time ever touching one of these gadgets and I guess it is idiot proof as far as reading what is displayed automatically. Even I was able to read it!

If you are ever going to mod your car, a scanner seems like a logical must have gadget at least to get an idea what the CEL means at a very elementary level. If it says STOP THE CAR AND GET OUT NOW, then at least I know its time to HIT THE PANIC BUTTON... hehehehehe
