Drivetrain K&N Drop In plus Drilled lower Half?
K&N Drop In plus Drilled lower Half?
Hey guys,
I have been contemplating doing a CAI for the past few months.I then read that a few people actually replace the stock air filter element with a K*N and then will remove the box near the fire wall. They then drill/cut the lower half of that(below the filter). To make a DIY intake? Is there any dyno gain to this?I would assume there is as its pretty similar to other intake designs.Only advantage i see is one is a cone and the stock uses a flat panel filter.

Im going back and forth about the idea...I want to do this...NO i want to do a real CAI...etc.I found a good deal on a K&N drop in.I was gonna remove the whole intake system and modify the firewall panel and make it suck air from a larger hole.

Let me know how it goes. I bought an extra firewall just for this but haven't had the time. This weekend I'm on a blackout mission.

I did just that to my stock airbox, and have been happy with the sound and feel. No dyno numbers, however. Using a dremel to cut larger holes will take far less time and provide more air than doing all the drill holes on mine, for example. Have fun with the mod!

This is exactly what I was going to do. I'm too cheap buy an aftermarket CIA. I made my own instead!! As long as you open up the bottom part only, seal up the new opening to the "cowl" it should be an improvement. It will sound better too.
