MINI Conversions

Today I woke up thinking about possible conversion for a R50/R53 Mini. Taking into account the space in the engine bay, any ideas? Would it be possible to assemble a classic 911 turbo? Would it be an interesting option?
Leave you to it!

Why bother

I wouldn't even bother with the under hood (Bonnet) space available. I would start by thinking of stuffing a Boxter s engine and trans amidships and doing rear wheel drive. It would be better balanced overall and far more civilized, just my .02c.

So your option would be a Boxter S engine in the rear. Ok! Nice!
Any other options Mini addicts???

I think keeping the (an) engine upfront and a "simple" (haha) conversion to rear wheel drive would be best. Keep it half-way stock looking.

With everything in the rear the weight balance would still be horribly skewed, just in the opposite direction..........(?)

Probably an srt4 motor could work (bieng that the engines we have now are chrysler, and may be similar in mounting up), or an R56 swap would be ideal

I'd agree that, engine in front, RWD,even AWD, would be the way to go. But I'm all for ridiculous things, so stuff as much as you can fit into the front. 911 turbo, why not?

It's been done by Team Qvick for the Belcar Belgian GT Championship. Using a loophole in the rules which allows engines from any car made by the manufacturer to be used, they stuffed in a euro S50 B30 from the 1992-95 e36 m3 under the bonnet.

Thanks for the info, gnat. I think that's probably the first actual swap I've seen. A lot of wishful thinking, but not much happening. Course they're still pretty new. As they age.. more will happen.

The problem with this swap is that it'd or it's very expensive for an everyday user, or occasional track day private driver.

Sorry, didn't know what happened. Please, let's see if someone can fix that.

If doing a conversion in Japan should be the DC5 Type R, which came along with the Integra Type R.
If doing it in the US should be the DC2 Type R, which came along with the Integra Type R.
If doing it in Europe should be the K20A which came along with the Accord Type R.

I make these differences because I'm sure these engines would be easier to find in each of these places.

What I'd really like to know is if these engines will fit in the Mini R50/R53 engine bay.

Any other suggested conversion???

Why a honda swap? If you want a slow car why make it harder, just buy the R50. I will fight anyone who swaps that. Vtec FTL

Don't mean to get a slow car. It's just I like the way the VTEC engine works and with some mods you can get some extra hps. I also don't mean to get more than 250/260hp as I consider it enough for a Mini Cooper. That's why I thought of that swap.

Why a honda swap? there making tons of horsepower out of those engines....you must be confused. Pull up on a turbo civic one day and find out . 300+ on those cars is easy to pull off and guys around here build up to +900

Look at those hondas on there and dream as i do

If you just want 250hp there are a lot easier was of doing, not as unique (which is cool if that is what you want) but easier ways of doing it.

I never bash honda engines. Those new K series motors are awesome and I've seen turbo'd b18 cars walk down vipers.
