New TSW Engine Damper Kit Installed

In short. Love it.

Those of you that have engine dampers know that they always add a bit of NVH back into the car, but with the new rubber mounted v2 kit, it's really very minimal. I can't believe how much crisper the throttle response is after the install. Gotta love the carbon bling too.

Anyway, just wanted to post first impressions of the newest version of their damper kit.

Here's a pic with the damper installed:

I just installed mine today also. I was very hesitant about adding an engine damper because the MINI does not need any more NVH, but I am very happy with it. NVH is very minimal, and the benefits are huge. Throttle response is better and shifting is much smoother. Highly recommended.

I just installed header and TSW springs,so reducing engine movement sounds like a win/win.
Was it an easy install ?

I think I need one too!

I want one also, good to see this seems to have revolved through several designs to something that may be the right compromise.

I did it in about 40min before heading off to work one day back in August. Quite pleased with it, most notable with driving being easier in the higher RPMs now.

The steel braces on mine need re-straightening every so often. What's the NVH, the engine vibration?

If you have the thinner front bracket, you can email TSW for a new thicker one or just order the v2 for an all new setup.

I want to get an engine damper, but I am a wee bit hesitant as I have an MCSa. I'm not sure about any clearance issues that may arise, as I believe most of the units mount right near the sc belt tensioner.
I have installed Poly lower engine bushings and love them. I plan on getting the gearbox poly bushings as well. I honestly don't care about NVH, so I'm looking for whatever stabilizes the engine movement the best.
Any MCSa owners out there with Dampers?

I ordered the updated damper the other day (I have had the V1 for quite some time). Truth be told, I like it for the carbon fiber look. The vibration never really bothered me.

If added NVH from an engine damper troubles you, then you're probably in the wrong forum on NAM...

Is this one of those rubber bushing pos's or an actual dampening oil filled shock?

I had one of the "lordoftheflies" dampers, which looks exactly like this one and it was one of the pos rubber bushing ones. It now sits at the bottom of my extra mini stuff box.

I know for sure this could be answered by the guys at TSW.They always answer the phone and seem to not mind talkin' about anything Mini related, especially their own product.Call 'em

http://www.txwerks.com/servlet/Detail?no=18 Link to Detailed info about v2 damper.

This is the unit that mounts up on TOP of the motor. Will it fit an MSCa? Yes. Will it help an MSCa? some say yes, some say no. v2 does have less NVH.

I've had V1 on for about a year now. I just received and installed V2 the Carbon fiber model, yesterday. Much smoother same effects. Especially on acceleration and shifting...

TSW Carbon damper

Just put ours on Sat prior to Sundays AutoX, never had one before so I cant comment on difference between models but the NVH wasn't noticeable. The improvement in smoothness was. I tried a 2 to 1 shift on one section at the end of the run and was really surprised at how much smoother it was than before the damper.

Why would the physics be any different?
Auto/Manual,both are a big mass of lunging metal.
I can feel my engine sling back forward, especially in sport/auto mode WOT.
This has to help with harnessing that "wasted"energy.Right?

Based on feedback from NAM MCa & MCSa owners the issue seems to be what trans you are running and how you drive. The harder you drive and the non-CVT Trans seem to benefit the most from the damper.
