Drivetrain NEW EXHAUST
I'm looking for a new exhaust and wanted to know what you all think is the best one on the market presently OR any that may be coming to the market soon...
I'm wanting increased power, with a nice rumble !! but not a loud noise that a teenie would put on to create everyone's attention to the noise...I also don't want a noise where i can't hear anything in the cockpit..Something better than stock but with a soft nice sounding purr...
So really looking for a professional exhaust with a nice purr and good looking even if the HP is not increased by as much as another noisy one..THANKS ALL..

You will most likely get lots of opinions on exhaust - but I believe the Borla fits what you are looking for.It has a nice purrrrrrrr - not too loud - just a bit of extra grrhhhh, and you can't hear it from the cockpit
Chow!

Please mention which car this is for-
MCS or MC since the exhausts are different for each car.
See the threads and do a search for exhausts in Special interest topic section: Performance modifications
If you have the MCS then Borla is not a bad choice for availability locally or mailorder, slightly more loudness from stock, 5 or 6 HP more power, slightly more loudness from the interior. Looks good. Pretty common.
Borla also makes exhausts for the MC.
Here is a review of a Borla on an MCS

If you are interested in the Borla group buy see
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ic=13220&0
For the MCS, some people like the Scorpion, the Quicksilver (a bit louder than Borla and more HP), the NRP, and the UUC (still not quite ready). Probably stay away from Magnaflow and Borla Sport due to these are the most Loud options.
See https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...c=12565&48
For NRP

And
For the Quicksilver (only weighs 21 pounds or half the weight of the stock exhaust)

>>NRP seems to be the no-interior-drone exhaust with satisfactory gains.

True, had mine installed yesterday. Inside cabin conversations are at normal levels under steady rpms, ~ 3k - 3.5k. If you want to hear what's happening behind you, just fold down the seats.
The only way to buy an AM exhaust is to hear it up close and drive it. I did and the choice was made - NRP.

SOunds good. But what does it sound like at WOT? Do you hear it then? I mean, then it SHOULD be loud. Does it sound louder and better than stock when you get on it???

I have a Stebro exhaust (the're a small company who's been making exhaust systems since the late 50's, mostly for elite euro brands such as Alfa, Lambo, Ferrari, etc.) It is a sweet system, not too loud at all, but does scream if I mash the pedal. After the pulley and intake (which both increase SC noise) I hear the SC more than the exhaust. To be honest though, I got a deal on the Stebro and would have gone with Quicksilver or NRP if I had to pay full price. I like thier single muffler, light weight designs, even though the Stebro still shaved off 8 lbs vs. the stock system.
If you use the search function, there's another thread I have with pictures of the Stebro system.

Alta 15% pulley, Stebro exhaust, Pipercross intake, Progress 22mm rear anti-sway bar.

For those of you that like the extra weight savings of a one muffler design, Supersprint will soon be releasing a muffler design race system. It will be a side exit system similar to cooper exhaust system.

After 4 days I can say the sound at WOT is awesome, just put down the back seats and you not only hear the deep rumble but a loud rush of air volume exiting the tips. Again the cabin is quieter without the drone, an issue I'm glad to see gone.
The only issue at install was the resonantor/pipe hanger rod used to attach to the 6-bolt black isolator plate was within 1/4" of the raised lip of a square thru-hole as the NRP hanger was under the pipe, not coming over the top. Could see where there was contact as I heard it at low rpms. Have to see it to best visualize it. Just cut the square thru-hole on the 6-bolt plate at its corners and rolled it up out of the way. Minor nuisance abated.

hey smk...
just got the nrp myself. a question:
how is the finish on your tips?
the welds on the very ends of my tips are ground away in some places but built up in others. looks nice at about 10 feet, but up close, pretty poor. underneath, however, the exhaust is beautiful. i can't understand why they'd pay so much attention to the non-visible parts, then just leave the tips. save for this, i have no complaints whatsoever.
i think i'll try grinding them back a little then repolishing the ends. wish me luck.. (i'll need it).

bodinski,
The inside cone of the NRP tips are semi-polished, however they turn black as does the stock after 100+ miles, so a non-issue. Can't wipe it down every night.
The outside of the tips appear highly polish yet not chromed. They look better than my friends who got his in March.
The edge of the tips are a little rough in 2-3 spots, but again not an issue as when I'm driving, I'm in the front of the car. The guy behind can't keep up anyway to eye-ball the quality of the tips.
Note: After I reworked the 6-bolt plate, there are no rattles, vibrations, coughing,.... from the NRP. Only the roar of air.

Mini-Mania at http://new.minimania.com/ Had to wait for awhile, but worth it just as we wait 4-6 months for our MCS. I believe orders are accumulated for a NRP production run which keeps the price at an economic run level (less set up costs) yet a longer wait for us, ~3 weeks.
Here's the NRP website: http://www.nrpinfo.com/ Can't order directly.

This is all very interesting, but flangi has still not indicated which model of the car he/she is looking at upgrading the exhaust of.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Borla for the Cooper, and both versions of the Borla for the S seem to be garnering positive reviews as well...

just for the record, i took the dremel, then some fine sandpaper, then wenol to the tips. they actually cleaned quite well. while i was at it, i shined up the insides a little, too. it was fairly easy and really sets the tips off.
