VIP engine stabilizer

I found this and haven't seen it before. Does any one have one that can give a review of it?

PGT has been singing it's praises for awhile. It is for the later models that have the oil filled motor mount.

I have had mine installed on my 04 MCS for about 12months or so.
It looks very OEM & is infact very similar to the original mount in the 02 model Minis.
Havn't had a problem with my mount since fitting it.
Much better alternative to the common hydraulic style stabiliser IMO as it is designed specifically for the Mini.

The only problem (for owners of '05+ MINI's) is that the holes on the side of the strut tower are not threaded....

IIRC, the vip instructions called for drilling some holes through in order to bolt the stabilizer to the side of the strut tower(not happening for me, so i sold it)

it's easy to do....I hit it the bolts with some underbody coating.

And is just as effective as the TSW and LoTF dampers.

Really?? I had a cheap-o no-name brand engine dampener that was similar (or perhaps the same) to the TSW (and other brand) dampeners, and it made the entire car vibrate so much at idle (esp. with the A/C on) that I immediately removed it. Then again, had I forked out the hundred or so bucks for the TSW dampener, I might not have experienced as much NVH.

But perhaps this might be a better solution for me...

Not a problem on mine except for a bit at idle......and yes it is still a very stiff damper.

I've said this in every thread on the VIP...I had the others and removed them due to NVH. TSW says they have a new version would should eliminate the issues with the old....should be a good alternative for those who don't want to do the VIP install

I wonder if it has to do with the location of the attachment points?

I have one of the original LoTF dampers installed as per the instructions and don't have any issues except at idle.

does this not work or 02-03 cars? they only list 04 and above. I do think the early models had a different mount but mine is ripped and don't want to replace it with the factory mount.

for the earlier models this will not work. You can get the powerflex bushings to replace the smaller bushing, but you will need to get a new mount if the larger mount is torn as the larger powerflex bushings are not a replacement.

I'm thinking about getting this, but I want to see if I can replace those rubber bushings with poly ones. I already have poly lower engine mount bushings, so the added nvh won't bother me.
In fact, I'd almost want to see if I could fab up a solid piece w/ no bushings...
