Calling All OBX ,RMW HEADER Owners!

I wanted to see how your headers are holding up.I'm thinking of getting OBX/CAT combo from Helix.I know Jan's header is awesome, but more money.Which way should I go?

I have not changed my header, but FWIW...I have heard that the OBX cannot be beat for the money...that said, Jan's header is going to be a far better match for the Jesus head. If you can swing it go for it, but if not then the OBX would not be a bad upgrade. I would defenitely talk this through with Jan to see if you would be wasting money on the OBX. He is the engineer of the head, he will be able to give you the best answer. Also, he is not someone to "sell" you into something. Jan will give you honest advise that will point you in the direction that is right for you.

What PGT said I do agree with...Hyundai or Ferrari???

In the end it is what makes you happy and how much money you want to put into this car. It can become a VERY slippery sloap...as you have already made a decent amount of mods.

Thanks for the quote. I thought that I read Jan saying something like that in the past. That just made the discussion easier.

The OBX is holding up fine, no problems. Best bang for the buck header out there.

one could argue they do the same thing. others would argue they're quite different like you say.

OBX vs RMW Header heh, there is no comparison. Bang for the buck the OBX is a better deal in the short run, it opens to passages and allows for more flow. However it's cheap steel and will fall apart. RMW is matched to RMW head and brings out the best the head can offer. Putting an OBX header on a RMW head is like narrow run flats on a Porsche. Yeah it will still go but the potential is wasted. On the other hand using an RMW header on a stock head is just a big a waste of potential.

You don't state what head you would be matching the header with. Looking at your mod list I don't see a head listed, so in your case with a stock head an OBX would better choice.

Its not cheap steel its stainless steel. There are a bunch of people running this header and I have yet to see a thread discussing that they
are falling apart. I have 15,000 miles on my OBX header and just had the car on a lift this weekend to add a bung AND its in perfect shape. I live in Florida where it is not only exposed to hot humid temps but I also live on the water (saltwater).

No doubt that Jan's header brings out the best from Jan's head, considering that he specifically built the header for his head.

Considering that the OBX header was specifically built for the stock head adding it to Jan's head is not a natural match BUT that is not to say that it could not be. Helix could comment here since he works w/ Jan's products as well as OBX.

actually I have a header designed for the stock head too. This also works better than the OBX. The beauty of my system which allows me to change the tune of the header by changing out the collector changes the place where the torque band is. There is no other Mini header manufacturer which does this. The design of 4-2-1 just doesn't work as well as a properly designed 4-1 on a boosted car.

how much does the header cost for the stock head? does it use a flex joint? origionally i bought a cheap megan header, the first one i had a leak in the flex after 3 months, they sent me a new one and i have it installed but had a lot of issues. are any mods needed to fit your header?

as you can see the quality flex joint, they have not broken unlike the woven types most use. They are more expensive but what is really more expensive in the long run? Running a cheap one that breaks, then having to fix it with labor etc or just paying more in the first place?

Jan,
will it attach to magnaflow cat back system?
i like the way it looks, my question is , what if i get this header, then in the future decide to go with your custom head, will i have to purchase a new header or will this one work?
does it matter where the flex is, my megan is higher up in a more vertical position where yours looks horizontal?
funds are tight right now will you take maybe one of my wifes cats in exchange?

yes it will attach to a magnaflow catback but it will need to be altered at the Y in the back. (slight tilt) the header will come with the proper center piece etc to get you close. Yes this header will also work with the head.
The flex where we have it works fine.
Sorry on the cat as we have a parrot and a new baby parrot on the way
