Drivetrain Anyone have experience with Sprint Booster?
If this is true then it is a wonderful "unintended consequence" for me. For many reasons my car runs rich. On the SB, I now have logged miles with it and would happily share my experiences. But I won't do that in an environment in which I am prejudged as a fanboy or advocate.
I went out for lunch today, On second thought, I may keep the SB now
. I'm only getting about 20 MPG (according to the MINI computer) around Orlando in traffic with 15%, intake, exhaust w/header and GIAC tune. Not sure why.

Hello Dr. Phil
I have the SB and really like it. I just had my car tuned this past weekend. I was running lean but it was probably due to a new head. I was not running lean beforehand.
You guys know way more about this stuff than I do but I sure do like my SB for what it's worth.

Maybe there's a reason they're popular with MB owners, somewhat with Audi/VW, and only mentioned on BMW boards...

For those that may not know what it does (and don't speak/want to translate Italian): http://www.sprint-booster.co.uk/default.asp?cookiecheck=yes&
All it does, is make your throttle pedal need about half the effort for the same response.
My very simple, completely free fix for the same result: depress your pedal further. You can send me the leftover $300 as a donation for such sage advice. I think the track-junkies on the forums here have brought up the obvious problem with a loss in throttle control and modulation as well. Needless to say, I see no reason why this product should even exist. Reminds me of the DVD Rewinder: http://www.dvdrewinder.com/
Oh, and don't take this as an attack on you at all Stallion. Merely trying to point out the infinite stupidity of a very well marketed, yet terrible and nearly functionless product.

Dammit Matt, now I need to buy a DVD Rewinder, just to keep it on my tv and explain to people what it does...
No, wait, stop, don't do it, leave it alone.
$crew that!
I have a sprint booster and love it!! It's great with or without a tune. I've taken it on and off three times to make sure I really liked it and it's no longer coming off the car. I works and works well
.
I will say this again! Unless you have tried one you don't know what yuoooo are talking about. Try one, you might like it
.

I've a SB "replica" on my cooper (non S).
Yes, you can feel it and sometimes it's very fun to have it on.
It has selectable positions (like the ones from Blitz and other brands) from eco (even slower throttle response
) to sport. If you set it from sp 5 to 7 (it has 7 positions) you can really feel it... it's not only about pushing faster and harder you right foot. From sp 1 to 3...i think there is no noticeable change.
I think it could be a good "plug in " for your minis, but the original SB is too expensive.... and the one sold by m7 is expensive too.
Sorry for my bad english

I still find it funny how some people are "experts" on things they haven't even tried. I don't know about you all, but I get sick of "arm chair" testers. This whole discussion is quite simple to sum up for you non-believers.........If you don't know anything about the bible, then don't preach to me.
So what part of the throttle does it actually affect? Does it reduce the required travel of the pedal(ie the engine is WOT before the pedal is on the floor) or does it speed up the throttle's motor(ie the engine reacts quicker when you stab the throttle to the ground than it would otherwise)

With the scanner - you would see the change - No change AF - for refference I have the 1st eddition.
Why BMW did what they did = it was easier - more acceptable for most people to drive..... just speculation......
Ok what does that mean? Let's say I very quickly push the pedal to half way. Will the digital throttle position slowly climb to 50% and the sb makes that transition happen in less time? Or does it go to a number higher than 50%?
You're getting it. The SB makes it feel like ( exactly IMHO ) a mechanical linkage. Reading the scanner proves this out - 50% peddle = 50% TBS. Can't say exactly how the new SB, w/3 gears, feels - the single might be more than some would like...I like it
See now this explanation bothers me. What you're saying was how I imagined it was the first time I heard of this device. If the motor which opens the throttle truly is noticeably slow compared to the relative instant motion of a cable the obvious solution is a faster motor yes? The only way to make the current motor faster would be to push more current through the motor so I'm imagining the SB is a basic amplifier to simply push more voltage to the motor or it adjusts the controlling resistance after the ecu by way of piggyback.
The method doesn't really matter, the point is that the motor is possibly being overworked. That's my main concern here, I don't doubt that it works and if the motor is too slow then it's a useful upgrade. I just can't help but think it would be in our best interest to replace the motor itself rather than do this but I also wouldn't be surprised if the current motor is overengineered and can take the abuse just fine. Just some food for thought.

Not to worry - 3 years = no problems
Replacing the motor is NOT necessary. Over worked? I don't think so. There is NO ADDITIONAL voltage to the motor = no amp. It's just an intercept, as far as I can see...... How it works "exactly", I'm not going to go there. Tried to figure it out when I first installed it..... It works - I'm satisfied
