GIAC Software question

Hi there,

I hope someone can help.. I have recently flashed my ECU with the GIAC Software. The car feels very responsive but I had noticed that the limiter had not changed. (6800 or 6900rpm not sure) From what I understood, the GIAC flash raises your limiter to 7200rpm. I had contacted the distributor where I had it done and they informed me that my ECU did not allow the software to change my limiter. Is this true? Have anyone experienced this? And is there anyway I could check if the software is in fact loaded?

BTW I drive a late 04 Mini Cooper S. (later spec).

Thanks in advance.

When I got GIAC it raised my limiter to 7200. Talk to Helix they helped develop the GIAC for the Mini and should be able to answer your questions.

I had mine done (at Helix) and it is definitely at 7200. Perhaps you could give them a call, it can't hurt.

I had my GIAC installed on my 03' MCS in Knoxville TN, and my rev limit was raised to 7200.

However, I have occasionally noticed that I maybe hit the rev limiter a bit early in first gear, maybe ~7050. Maybe its a traction issue?...I have DSC off. All other gears are fine though.

I would definitely have the shop reflash your car (for no cost) with the correct/new version of the GIAC software based upon your MINI's setup.

My rev limit changed to 7200 after the flash however the red lights on my tach stayed at the stock rev limit.

Esham, does your MINI by any chance have an auto trans?

What CmdrVimes means by "6850" is really "6950", but even then, the car will momentarily rev to a bit over 7k. For all practical purposes, it's ~7K for stock rev limit.

To the OP; an '04 MCS manual tranny has no special stipulations barring a raised limit; most likely your distributor forgot to check that box when putting your GIAC file together. They should re-flash your car with the raised limit like advertised. Good luck!

Thanks! My car definitely limits at less that 7000rpm.. more like 6800rpm.. I'll speak to my distributor about the box ASAP..

I seem to remember in some literature somewhere about the limit being set at 6850. The thing is I can't find any reference anywhere in any of the MINI marketing or technical material about where the rev limit is set.

I do know the hex value in the eeprom table, but without a meaningful conversion formula that doesn't really help.

Just an update guys...

I had my car reflashed.. still nothing. Even tried some other "15% pulley" maps.. still nothing. Then we tried a "19% pulley w/ 380cc injectors" map and it seemed to work. My car is perfect now all the way to 7200rpm

But my question is, should I be worried about any future unreliability? Or am I just being paranoid?:impatient

Thanks guys!

Hi guyz,
Just wondering if the rev limit increased to 7200, will it cause any unrealiability issues on engine ?!
