Drivetrain Easy Way to Re-install Oil Filter Canister
Easy Way to Re-install Oil Filter Canister
I changed my oil today for storage. I sometimes have difficulty reinstalling the oil filter canister. I realized that if you mark the canister at the point that the canister just about comes off that this is the position that you can start when you re-install the oil filter canister. I marked the with a paint marker on the one of the sides of the hex on the canister that you use the 36 mm socket over. It worked like a charm.
So next time you change oil, mark the position and your oil changes will go faster.
granted Ive done one oil change it seemed really simple...not sure how people could mess anything up or have diffucalty puttign it back on... BUT none the less a good Idea I think I will do it also as I may have just got lucky the first time...
The main issue with the canister is that there's two places for the threads to start engaging. Moreover, the engagement point is cut all the way down through nearly all the threads. It's way too easy to have one side engage on the first level of threads while the other side starts on the second. I've had good results pressing the canister down onto the mount as when you first start re-installing it.
