In a slight comparison....I had a 1991 GSX Eclipse (same exact engine and AWD drivetrain) that had 3" turboback, short-ram intake, MBC running 18psi at the track. I was able to take down a 396 bigblock Camaro in the quarter. They are fast cars, definately sleepers as homely Galants.
You just have to be careful with the axels on those cars. My budy, with the same set-up, busted an axel on launch.

Ha, I got pulled over for that in my old Protege, and I was told tire chirps were considered as disturbing the peace or something. Yikes... and I wasn't even driving with extra spirit... people these days.

Follow the link in my signature and you can see pictures of his car. It is scary fast.
I wonder what he is using for a rear end & axles. The stock pieces can barely handle 100 HP.

The stock differential and half shafts were good for up to about 150hp or so. He has installed a Nissan differential with stock half shafts right now though he is looking at converting Corvair hubs and half shafts this winter.

Like most of speed-related threads this one has gone on to talk about the other car...which I think is a perfectly good topic for discussion.

For now, no need to lock/remove the thread, or issue any kind of penalties...the general MINI community has spoken about the issue and I think that this is sufficient.

I was pulled over at one time due to my tires loosing traction on gravel, and a lady calling me in for doing a burnout (I swear ) and the cop told me it was a "display of speed."

Around the cops, I behave my best. Two hands on the steering and signal when exiting.

Sounds like a sick car!

I'm looking into a nissan R-200 conversion for my s2k as well! The stock diff doesn't like over 300ft/lbs from a launch!

he calls it the sleeper, i was in the car with him the other day and we beat a zo6 off the line from about 0-115 and were 1.5 car lengths ahead.

wish you guys woulda seen like look on the zo6 drivers face it was awesome!

Goodness, he'd have to do some serious tuning! I'm not fond of motorcycles one bit, but when it comes to displays of speed, I don't even pretend to want to mess with one! It only takes once!

I LOVE sleepers! My Taurus SHO was an awesome sleeper...gone now. But my GMC Typhoon is still somewhat of a sleeper, most people just think it's an older jimmy with a body kit. My Supra is a sleeper too, it's a 1988 but I put a 1998 twin turbo and 6 speed tranny in it...The Mini, when I do get it, will probably only get moderated changes since I like the idea of a reliable but fun to drive every day car lol.

I swapped the whole motor and 6 speed tranny from the wrecked 98 I bought for the parts. Used the front crossmember from a 91 supra and whatnot...it's not a common mod, but it's been done a few times enough that it's easy to find step by step how to's on most supra forums.

In japan the 90-92 supras I believe it were came with the 1JZGTE which has the same motor mounts and everything as the 2jzgte. So if you bolt the beefier crossmember from the 90-92 in an 87-88 it's pretty much a direct swap with a few hurdles here and there but nothing major. Having a complete but pretty well crunched 98 turbo car helped a lot.

yeah my 95 that I just got rid of, was a 5 speed that i had bored to a 3.3L, heads ported, polished, gasket matched, cams, BBB's, MAF, CAI, Stainless Y pipe, cat back, chip, cobra mustang front floating calipers and 13" drilled slotted rotors, 17x7 Cragar SS wheels, tokico struts, eibach springs, beefier sway bars, solid aluminum subframe bushings, fidanza flywheel...plus it was FULLY loaded with every factory option. Oh and of course...a Quaife LSD :D Mustang GT's and Camaro's, TA's...all fun to beat big time. Plus i'd have a car full of people while doing it lol. One time, a car full of people skis on the roof and a trunk FULL of suitcases and I demolished a friend in his 2001 TA with the V8. But it was a pretty high maintenance car, and the modifications and the way i drove it because of them just made it even more of pain...fun to drive but a pain to maintain. Hence my interest in the MCS.

Talk about hijacking the thread...sorry guys lol.

Anyways, i've never seen any of the AWD Galants...you think they'd be big in the NE in the winter and whatnot...

The AWD Galant is pretty rare. I think they only made a maybe a thousand, and that was going on 20 years ago. Wasn't the production number something like 1300 total?

i have only seen videos of the galant, but as a sleeper the thing is almost untouchable! maybe a swift or metro with a motor swap may have it beat

for the record.. and I really dont have an issue with street racing.. side by side accelerating to the speedlimit as fast as you can will get you in jail for street racing trust me on that

I told my 3 friends who are big into them about your car. 1 has a SHO but it's becoming a maintenance *****. Another got out of them because he was tired of FWD. The last one still loves them with all his heart. He was the one who just about fell over when I told him your mod list.

Lol, well all my SHO stuff is COMPLETELY gone as of two nights ago actually. The only thing I have left is my title, VIN plate, window sticker, and build sheet from the 95. Oh and the Cragar SS wheels i'm gonna sell on ebay.

Saw some pretty cool vids of the AWD Galant on youtube. One of it beating an EVO lol.

if I am the first at a light, my foot is to the floor, ASC keeps my wheels in check, EVERY SINGLE LIGHT, as far as I know it's not breaking the law, I'm not racing anyone, just like the OP in this thread
In many States, if you are trying to beat another vehicle, you are racing and it is illegal, even if you are within the speed limit. Racing and speeding are 2 different things, although in this post the OP said he was doing both.
