Drivetrain Remote ECU Work
Remote ECU Work
Hey guys,
With all the talk of tuning around here, I am curious as to whether anyone offers any kind of "remote" tuning?
Let me explain first. Considering my location (and lack of big interest in the Gulf South area), I am functionally SOL in terms of getting a tune easily. Dallas is the closest I've seen anyone using the Dimsport method offered, and that would set me back around $100 in gas, not including accommodations (I don't plan on driving 7hrs, tuning for 2+, then driving 7 hours back and feeling comfortable).
If the tune is offered for $350 + dyno time (if it is offered again closeby, the only reasonable option), this whole package ends up costing me around or upwards of $700.
Now, on one of the forum posts, I caught something regarding sending your ECU itself off for a flash. I don't like the idea of going by premade maps, but it gave me pause for thought. I do have access to a dyno here in town (http://www.thunderracing.com/shopservices/) and have access to a wideband system separate. Has any vendor considered the possibility of a send-off, tune, receive, re-dyno, re-send off, repeat...kind of tuning? This would easily be cheaper for someone like me by quite a large margin (shipping wouldn't be nearly as bad as my aforementioned costs), and could be done in a progressive manner so as to keep car availability for the individual maximized.
Maybe this has already been considered by a vendor or individual. I'm just putting it out there...I'll never know until I ask. Just looking for an answer to even the possibility of doing as such.

P.S. The guys at Thunder Racing would probably despise my car...I've been in there before but check out their site..."good ole' boys" at their finest.

I am working on being able to do this. It isn't cheap on my part to get into this but this is something I want to be able to do for the community.

then again I may be coming to New Orleans to check out some properties
but I have inquired into this as I know its a service that is needed but no one else seems to want to spend the money as it will NOT be a profit center for them. It's just money.... right?

...and to think it could all be yours.

Hopefully I won't be hunted for that comment.

I hear the 9th Ward has some cheap property...

I wish I had the same perspective of the market as you do...coming from my point, I don't know a thing about the costs or effort involved in such an operation. Sometimes I wish there was more a person could do to personally to aid progress; wishing seems to be the best bet.
