HELP!!!!!!!!!! sc pulley install gone bad
Hello guys. Well this afternoon I began to install my new sc pulley. I bought a used pulley off the marketplace; it is supposed to be an original mini mania 15% supercharger pulley. Everything went smooth with the install until i went to put the new belt on and release the tensioner. When I did so there was too much slack in the belt... not a whole lot, but the little hole on the tensioner that indicates when the tensioner is bad (the one you put the pin in to hold the tension) was completely gone. The belt was on correctly... I just cant figure it out. The only thing I can think of is that it must be a 17% or 19%. But my question is; Does mini mania even make a 17% or a 19%??? Please help!!

Not trying to offend, but I've put on 6 or 7 pulleys, and it's possible to mis-route the belt in such a way that it *looks* right, but is still slightly loose when you release the tension on the tensioner.
Are you using Randy Webb's directions? I have to double-check his belt diagram (the one that's hand-printed on yellow legal paper) each time to make sure I have the belt routed correctly.
Needless to say, I wouldn't even bring this up unless I'd done it myself once (or twice...).

I was there helping rich. This would have been my 5th pully install but i just couldn't figure it out. He had a new conti belt from mini mania. I have no idea what the number was but in referencing it it's the one that they list for 15%. Even the stocker was on there with the tensioner at full extension. The car has 75k on the odo, not sure if it's an original belt or not, but it is for sure an oem belt... but i've still never seen a stock belt that stretched with a 15% pully on it.
I run the napa K060535 on my 15%'s so I don't get any slipage. I know it's tight but it works and hasn't failed me yet.
Regardless the pully has no markings. I am 100% sure the belt was on there the right way as I've screwed it up before... you know, you get it on there it looks right but you release the tensioner and it's too loose. We were referencing webb's how-to btw.
a little help would be appreciated.
p.s. I feel like trash about this... first install of anything i've ever had go wrong. :( but then again i didn't have my tool box... if i would have i could have gotten this done regardless.

And if you've released the tension on your tensioner, and you can't see any part of the holes in the tensioner strap, I think that means that your belt is too long. (I'm not positive, though - I'll look at mine tomorrow). Do you have the stock pulley and stock-length belt?

If I remember correctly, every pulley with grooves on it touches the inside of the belt, and every smooth pulley touches the back of the belt. If you can't find a diagram, use that trick. Belt should be TIGHT when tensioner is released, with the tensioner a touch further extended than normal.

I didn't say that the car ran with the mis-routed belt - we noticed that the belt was too lose before we started the car. What I said was that there's a way to mis-route the belt that *looks* correct at first glance, but isn't.

Search on nam and find the part number for the Goodyear Gatorback belt people are using for the 17 and 19% belts. That's what I used on my 15% pulley after I had some belt slipping. The belt is bit noisy at first but will quiet down after a month or so.
I also replaced my tensioner at that point too. The reason I recommend the gatorback, is that I had problems with the JCW belt I had installed with the pulley. It still slipped, even though that is what most people use, but I just had bad luck with it.

Yeah I just got a reply from the NAMer I bought the pulley from; he said its a 15%. I also called mini mania and they told me that they have never made and thing besides a 15%. Anyhow, I got a smaller belt and everything is good... I'm out spinning tires like nobody's buisiness. Thanks for everyones advice.
