Pulley change!

My girlfriends dad was one of the head people I think at his old job at checkered flag mini in Va Beach, Va and he is going to help me swap out my pulley for some added performance. I was thinking about going with the alta 17%. I have an after market exhaust and the alta version 2 intake already,

1.)What else would I need to get for my car to perform sufficiently?

2.) Someone told me to get a gator back belt because they are loud and sound cool but it says on the box something about being the quietest belt???
I want my supercharger to scream and be noticed..

thanks for reading and please post some help. Cant wait to post some video/ pics after install.

I don't think you'll get "scream and be noticed" from a eaton blower. The screw charger design lends it's self to be quiet, it's the gear driven ones (Weiand 671, Older Vortech) that have the mad max sound.

Good luck with it!

Not sure about the V2. intake? But I have an Alta CAI with a 16% and a 2% pullies, and a exhaust and it will scream at higher revs . I also recently installed a Alta header and it helps with the screaming sound .

Only way I know to make it scream is to accelerate to redline in a hurry.

Good luck.

A 17% s/c pulley will definantly add some power. But it adds a lot of heat I hear. I think most tuners would recomend the 15%. After all, it is a proper tune that brings out the best in the pulley.

A 15% pulley and an Alta intake make my SC much more "screamy" than my wife's stock MCSa.

Much more. (power is not bad either!

i gues you have never been around any modded 03-04 cobras or lightnings then. when you throw a pulley on the stock eaton they tend to get loud. a roots blower is loud like this cause of the way it "beats" the air going thru the sc.

I'm a noob here, but after only 1 week here the pulley talk its getting sooooo obnoxious, 15% is the best, no no 17%, wait how about 19% etc. Has anyone done side by side dynoing of them, with an AIT sensor in the car to look at different temperatures generated?

What I notice in every thread i have read 15pages deep into this forum, is the people with 15% pulleys bad mouth the 17%, they guys with 17% bad mouth the 19% and the guys with 19% are the guys going fast with no issues.

In addition to the main purpose of this thread, be sure to add some colder plugs to your car for the added boost.

GL!

Hey I have an idea, go with the M7 16% and get the best of both worlds .

i don't have an opinion either way... but i'd stay away from that m7 belt shredder.

As far as a comparison. It's tough to get an idea of the difference between one or the other. on the stock head the difference in peak power is slim to none with the different pullies... it's just going to change the delivery of the boost. The truth is all of these mini's are all over the place. they differ as much as 20whp from one stock car to the next. So to get a real idea you'd have to do it on the same car and change the pully on a hot car (not fun at all) and dyno again. something very few if any people would ever do.

I went with a 15% because it was safe (read: in my mind) and provided me with more then i paid for. I didn't feel the need to go any smaller then that. I currently have: an alta cai, 15%, one-ball exhaust and a rmw tune. I was very happy with my 15% before the tune... and ecstatic with it after the tune.

p.s... keep in mind your water pump is hooked up to your super charger... so if you increase the rpm of your sc you are also increasing the rpm of your water pump... people have differing opinions on if this matters or not... my bet was better safe then sorry with my 25k worth of metal.

Have had mine on for well over a year and no problems, and know of many people that have had them for much longer than that, so don't see any problems with them.

I guess my perception of loud is a bit different and I should have clarified. When I think of a loud supercharger whine I think of the older Vortech superchargers - before the Q series - that are very very loud. I have been around a lot of modified mod motor cobras and lightings and sure the're louder than stock with a pulley, but when I think of a screaming supercharger I think of my buddies 5.0 with a vortech. You could hear the distinct whine over the 393 and it's track exhaust from accross the line at the strip.

i cant see belt affecting the noise other than slipping, the whine comes from the supercharger it self, therefore as long as it spins a certain RPM its gonna sound the same no matter what belt it has.

vortec sc's are centrifical tho, they should sound more like a turbo than a sc.

Here are two short clips which you can hear what I'm talking about. They don't sound like a turbo, the whine off idle is what I've been referring too. Turbo cars don't make much noise at or off idle because they aren't spooled up. The clips I posted are what I thought of when minipooper02 said he wanted his super charger to scream. My point was you won't get that out of a eaton screwcharger design.

Well I think someone did say that the belt shouldn't have an effect on the sound, but I know from my personal experiance that my header made a major difference. But in your original post you wanted more noise or performance or both?

Yes, the Gatorback belt whines (the label is a lie). If you want scream, then go 19% on an Endyn modified supercharger, plus the Gatorback. With the pressure/sound relief ports closed (left in photo) the supercharger can be heard in all its glory.

Colder range plugs are not a necessity, but are good for a bit of headroom, as are 380cc injectors if you opt for a 19% pulley. To get the most out of your pulley choice, get a quality flash. If you are in Virginia, Lucky Dog Garage is the place to go. A pulley and tune is the essential starting point for most people, but my recommendation includes head work; that is the base on which “performing sufficiently” grows.
