hey im a r53 owner looking into purchasing a r56. just wondering if any one has put the Alta front mount on their car, and if so if they have any photos.

since it's that size and it goes infront of the radiator. Won't that reduse the effectiveness of the radiator and cause overheating issues in hot climates?

 

I'm sure Alta has #'s to back up the fact that it doesn't affect water temp, and it's like they say....air still flows through the intercooler to the radiator.

 

Yes the air still passes through and the water temps are unaffected. I have had mine on Howard along with the water temp gauge (both before and after FMIC install) and no difference in water temps. same on the Mule. And it drove through the summer heat to the Dragon and back to Oregon. So no concern but always a valid question!

 

er, Adam, what are the temps at the Dragon and in Oregon?

I am in Malaysia and our ambient temps sometimes goes into the 40+ degrees C. So you imagine how much hotter it is in the traffic jams!

 

Got mine installed today. =)

Now if I can just hold out till the ECU comes in to take advantage of it!

does the intercooler fit with the front grille on or does the bottom piece have to be removed?

nope, just followed the directions from Alta, and put the bumper back on, and it fit fine with the grill mesh.

Wow! That pic really tells a story, doesn't it? Pretty much convinced me. My next mods will be turbo inlet hose, boost tubes and intercooler.

OK... stupid question... do the Alta directions cover the removal of the bumper cover? Seems to me that's probably going to be the hardest part.

 

I was wondering...does the bigger IC cause a bit of turbolag? Because this one is almost three times bigger than stock...

Adam, could you provide some data on the inlet/outlet losses and on the tubes resistance? I'm quite interested because i'm studying heat exchangers right now as I'm studying chemical engineering...

 

I was wondering....how difficult it is to remove the bumper to get access to the IC? Is that covered in the install directions?

 

Yes, Alta has the instrutions on their web site, so you can read them before you buy and decide if it's something you want to do.
