I've heard about as many people say that the JCW pulley is only around 11% reduction as say it's 14+% reduction. Since I've never seen 15 lbs boost - only 13 lbs max - it would make sense that it's only 11% (I don't claim to know exactly how much boost a given reduction pulley will make - just "eyeballing it" so to speak). In any case, yes, 15-16 lbs seems to be the norm for 15% pulleys, so that's what I'd like to get to. I'm not looking for giant boost numbers, just like to be at the same level as everyone else running a 15% pulley, as that seems to be the consensus of the ideal pulley size/boost level for a mildly modded street car.

Oh, and I'm only 100-200 feet above sea level, so I shouldn't be having altitude issues.

Because he's leaving 1-0.x% on the table.

Alta folk, would you have an off-the-shelf map that would play well with the following?
  • Full 05+ JCW kit (w intake, injectors)
  • Opened JCW intake w Madness filter upgrade
  • Resonator-less JCW exhaust
  • GP IC
  • 91 octane CA fuel
  • Massive lead foot that regularly trips the reve limiter
If so, what kind of gains could you guarantee?

Also, are you able to raise the rev limit via the Unichip? I'm a little unclear on this. I would love to take it up to 7k.

Thanks and Happy Toikey Day!

I have a question for Adam

What information do you have showing the GP mapping is more aggressive than all other mapping for MINI's?

thank you in advance

The answer is yes we do. We just completed the mapping for that type setup. We can not currently manipulate the redline, but are working on something would allow that. If you choose to purchase, please order direct from me and I will be sure to get you the exact right mapping.

Thank you for the interest in ALTA Performance!

I guess I don't understand the question. We only showed the gains the ALTA tune made from the GP mapping. But I believe the consensus was the results were higher than similar tunes from others.

Again, both Jeff and I are happy to answer the question with a bit more clarification. Thanks again and WELCOME TO NAM! I noticed the post count, so I feel privileged that you posted in our thread first!

You said you made big gains over the stock mapping which is aggressive due to the top of the line GP model. What information do you have that says the GP mapping is more aggressive than othr software versions?
Also, whose consensus are you consulting to verify higher gains?
I am looking for software for my R53 and I want to be sure I make the right choice the first time.

I used to see about 13 lbs at wot above 6,000 rpm. I've already got an ALTA V.1 15% pulley, and was going to have it installed a while back. The shop was having trouble removing the JCW pulley, however, and didn't feel that they could force it any more without damaging the input shaft/bearings, so they left the JCW part on. I have had both that shop (a BMW specialty shop that also is MINI certified) and the dealer go over my intake system looking for leaks and double-checking boots and bolts, but neither of them said they found any leaks or anything else wrong. Bypass valve seems to be working (judging by what I see with the boost gauge when I move the gas pedal). Not sure where my boost is going.

So, I've got the 15% pulley, just not on the car at the moment. I'd like to get the boost up to the 15-16 lb range.
That seems low still. 2 things i would do. Mod your bypass valve (they all leak) then pressure test the system. Pull off your filter and build a plug so you can put compressed air into it. Pump it up to at least 20psi. IF no leaks, then maybe you are at high elevation?? Our JCW car at 7000 make a about 14-15psi. It also could be the gauge??

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a slight leak in the boost guage. It ran fine and the gauge worked fine, just was slightly low. I hooked up a MightyVac (you could just suck on the line) and see if it keeps a vaccuum. I just had to tighten a fitting and problem cured.

Hope this helps

Maybe if you ventured out of your own threads you would see dyno graphs posted everywhere. Since you are so big about power what are your track times since those can't be fudged?

Also, could you please answer my question that you so conveniently passed over before. Post #33 in this thread
thank you

Man, switch to Decaf Bro! I don't think ALTA is attempting to evade you at all.
Why don't you call them and talk about this instead of appearing to be short-sighted on this board.
ALTA has been around way longer than you have and are often found on many threads that are not their own.

Peace.

WHOA!!!! Sorry if you felt something got passed over. We do venture out into a LOT of threads. Seems like an adversarial comment, which you will see that ALTA is very willing answer questions, concerns, tech issues etc. Soooooooo what exactly do you need in terms of dyno results? Jeff or I can gladly share what you need. The non-GP results are VERY similar and Jeff has those as well to publish (or close to it.) The track is closed for the year up here and even if it was open the variables on track conditions, make it far harder to compare. The dyno is the best tool for repeatability.

If something was passed over MY apologies! But it was certainly NOT intentional.

If you want more info my contact info is below. Use it!

Thanks again for considering ALTA for your car! I take that as a compliment when clients choose MY products over others to spend their hard earned money on!

I wish you guys could pass you knowledge to the Aussie tuners here. After big gains from my custom Unichip to start, 6 weeks later I am getting it ripped out tomorrow as the car is virtually undrivable. As soon as your foot goes further than a grannys would on the accelerator it dies! Spent hours on the dyno and they just cannot for the life of them get it working properly.

PS Have heaps of Alta stuff fitted to my car and love it!

This sounds like an issue with the DBW wires. Its sounds like the failsafe is kicking in. The Unichip doesn't mess with these wires, so it most likely isn't that. BUt if its programmed funny, then yes. Does it do this when its unplugged?

I am bumping this as several recent e-mails referenced the thread. Good information here for lots of folks considering an ECU upgrade for the R53 in JCW or non-JCW form. As always let me know if you need dyno results, or other information. Always happy to help!

Adam,

What about a high altitude tune? I live in Denver and I'd like to see something that's specific at 5280ft or higher any ideas? I'm not even sure something like altitude would affect a good tune.

Heck yeah it can make a big difference. We don't have specific at altitude tunes perse, but I would like to hear from Jeff (ALTA2) as to if there are some known changes that could be added to your mapping. The low altitude maps would certainly work and be a major improvement, but one tuned at that height would be ideal.

Let me know if you want me to pursue this further. Chat soon!

Hey rusty, did you notice that Jeff made that post before CHRISTMAS LAST YEAR!!!!! Some of your graphs are from three weeks ago, one from november (might have been posted but....) and another the tail end of December 07. So a bit hard to poke fun at a guy who can't predict the future.

With that being said, we are super excited to see gains like that. Way to go Jan!

Yeah i'd like to see how numbers would be changed at altitude. Being in Denver most of my fun driving are done on the twisty mountain roads. Let me know!!
