Hey all, the throttle body came from Randy this morning so I rushed over to the shop and put it on. While it's not like putting a pulley on hp-wise, there is definitely more intake noise, more throttle response, and a definite seat of the pants feel. I'd bet it's good for 6hp.

The unit is 61mm in place of the 57mm stock unit. Your stock unit becomes a core when you send it back to Randy.

I like it!

Graham

How many HP do you think you have added with your mods, and how much is the total cost?

I am getting ready to pick up an MCS and am wondering how much more performance I can get for hoe much more $$

I was just adding that up today:

Intake $239
Exhaust $816
Pulley $400
ECU $720
Throttle Body $459

= $2634

+ $300 in Labor = $2934

I also have the full stage 1 suspension package (springs sway bar and control arms)

+ EBC pads front/rear.

Ooops didn't answer all of the question. My guess is I have added 225-163 = 62hp. The car is like a jet plane taking off! I love it!

I'd be very curious to see a few of Randy's Minis dynoed. That way others of us who have done the same or similar mods could see if our car was running to spec.I have the rogue intake, and QS exhaust.Randy recently rechipped my car and installed the pulley. My new throttle body is in the mail.
After I install the throttle body,I'll be looking for a local dyno shop.

We should be about the same. I'll see about a dyno also.

Graham, how hard was it to install the throttle body and how long did it take?
Thanks,
Lloyd

Does changing the TB seem to have any affect on the stumble? You have basically changed the resolution of one of the systems.

LJAJr, the install was easy once you figure out that the rightmost (looking down at the TB) go in first. For some reason, I could not get everything to line up putting the leftside bolts in first. It must have something to do with the leftside hardware that exerts some pressure left to right. It should take 30 minutes, it took me 45 but now I know!

Wesport, no effect on stumble. Dang! :???: But once under way more intake noise, better throttle response and great seat of the pants GO! Worth it!

Aloha from Hawaii,
I too got a throttlebody from Randy. I got it installed today at a Goodyear shop- it was easy and took about 30 minutes and cost $40 but they did a great job and reused my original clamps. This gives me a stealthy look which would fool my dealer if I wanted. The throttlebody looks like stock until you see there is a clear tape around the edge of the dark grey plastic backing to the body itself. The original TB from my MCS was dark with soot especially below the butterfly.

I have not got a chance to drive it that much yet but it is very nice and smoother on throttle up. 3000 to 6000 rpm is great across all gears. Sound is about the same for me, nothing unpleasant. To get the most out of my car I'll stay in 2nd and 3rd a bit more and run it to 5500 rpm. Very fun and very fast.

My intake and quicksilver exhaust helped HP in the 4000 to 6000 rpm range so this is a nice complement. The car is very well mannered and is doing great. I don't really get any stumble at any time with my MCS. I might go for a header (london stainless) next. The pulley is good but I don't have any reliable installer here yet.

Maybe someone can do the dyno so we can know how much fun we are having. I like the TB upgrade and would recommend it.
