For those who like custom mods

Or just 'el cheapo way for a boost in performance without the big sticker price.. Here's my mods so far..

Intake...slap on a filter, it's still getting the fresh air drawn in from the front!
It still needs to be cleaned up and fastened down securely..I just haven't gotten to that yet.. but, it serves its purpose (oh ya, I removed the box since this pic and the 90 degree curve below it, so the air from the front of the car is blowing in right underneath this!

Exhuast.. why not just unbolt it..what do you have to lose? weight.. and to gain? power

Hotside intercooler muffler restriction..muffler piping ftw!

If you have questions, feel free to ask!

I don't have any sound clips yet, but it loud when you get on it and just cruising it's not really that bad.. For me, it's tolerable, but on the highway cruising at 3K or so in 6th... It may get a little bit drony for some people..

Eh...mini loves it!
Soon, I'm going to be making a custom downpipe and a straight pipe all the way to the rear and put some tips on it, so it'll look as if I never removed it..just..louder of course

Lucky! I wish I didn't have to pass emissions with mine...

Does it smell at all?

Not sure where the cats are on this car.

Also is it alright for the heat of the exhaust to exit there? Any potential hazards?

No smells.. I mean, you'll smell something the first few miles because of it being open, but nothing after that..

There is a cat in the downpipe and possibly one in the catback.. I need to double check, can't remember off the top of my head.

I don't really see any hazards.. It's been off for about 2 weeks+ now, and I've done city and a couple hours highway driving at speeds from 65 to 100, so no problems with anything burning, melting, blackening, etc...

Looks like the oil pan and transmission are right next to it, but haven't had any warning lights for overheating and the car is constantly going, so always *potentially* being cooled a bit..

Try it if you'd like, and worst case, bolt it back up.. Took me about 30 minutes to get off the car, you only need one socket (13mm I think), then pull the exhaust off the hangers.

Yep.. Think I'm going to have to do this.

My old C6Z06 had 3" straight pipes and catless headers. I had some smell at first but then it wasn't too bad after a few weeks. And ohhh the sound. As for inspection there's always ways around that. I think on a new car you don't have to worry about that for 2 years anyways. .

Does the rear end look crazed without the pipes in the back?

What do you think the exhaust system weighs?

Feel any power increase?

Thanks for the replies..

I'd say the rear end looks fine, I dont have any pics, but it's not like its a big scream "oh my god, where's the mufflers???" so you'll be fine...

The exhaust system probably weighs 30-35lbs?, I'm not that great guessing weight, but if I had to, that's what I'm thinking..

Power increase, I'd say a little, the butt dyno thinks so too.. It spools faster, just the first time starting the car, there's no backpressure, so rev a bit more or start in sport mode, but once you pull out of your parking space you're good to go!

I've just gotta be a nanny and say that you should route that pipe outside of the car somehow, at the very least. You shouldn't smell anything when in the drivers compartment. If you do, then you have exhaust accumulating in it. I hope you are driving with the windows down.

Seriously, I can't think of any tech inspection that would pass for competition, much less a state safety inspection. I used to be a state inspector for TX, you would not make it to the emissions test.

But, I cannot see how its power gains would not be similar, if not better than any other catback system, even if you routed it to the side or the back in order to make it sane. Heck, route it out a hole in the hood, then it will be really loud

Your heading down a perfectly good road to messing up a great ride!
Congrats!
Curious how the car is doing at innspection time as well.
Personally I wouldn't short change my mini!!
Ghetto mods will have ghetto results!

Not trying to start a war.. to each their own, right?
I'm not messing it up, everything is still reversible.. This exhaust is temporary until I get some straight through pipes welded and routed out of the rear of the car, then throw some tips on it. I don't have inspection, as stated earlier, otherwise I wouldn't have done this.
As far as the intake, I'm going to redo it and strap it properly so not to have all the zip ties.. I like to see what the car will do with the mods instead of spending a bunch of money and later realizing I may not like it. There are no 'ghetto results' - everything functions as normal, to my taste. Exhaust is louder, turbo spools quicker, the turbo also screams and you can hear the stock wastegate..

Ahhh... can you say carbon monoxide poisoning. That exhaust goes somewhere, partially into the cabin. Your slowly killing yourself. If you don't care about yourself, at least put a turn down on that so you don't mess up things under there. Sorry but I would expect this from a Honda Civic owner.

and how is it getting into the cabin?

like I mentioned..once more - this is temporary until I weld pipes from the downpipe to the rear exit. if this were the case, then cutouts would have a probably have a 'use at your own risk' kind of warning, because most people with an exhaust cutout put then right after the downpipe on all sorts of cars..

+1. Like you said, to each his own.
If you don't like junior's mods, don't do them to your car. Personally, I would not. However, I'm not going to attack the guy either.

Thank you! I'll be sure to post pics when it's done and show the exhaust routing to the back of the car so it won't be going straight into the cabin anymore! Hopefully I can do it this week, if not, it won't be for about 3...

Why are you on here to bash.. you already said this ^^ in your first post. Also, I still haven't recieved an answer as to why you would think I'd be getting CO poisoning.. the exhaust is pointing straight back. Even if the windows were closed, the car is drawing in fresh air and is filtered as far as I'm aware... Also, the only time the exhaust is sitting still is at a stop light.
