Tuning numbers - FA vs NA

While shopping tuning parts from various suppliers, ie Milltek, GIAC etc, I've noticed somthing that surprised me...

the "dyno" gains for the FI MINI are significantly lower than those of some NA engines, like the R32 is a good example.

I've always been under the assumption that it's quite hard to get big numbers from a NA engine with only software and exhaust, but these places are claiming 20+hp from the exhaust, and 13hp from the software

I know turbos you just turn up the boost, superchargers need only a pully, but in the BMW world, NA engines are not very responsive to mild tuning.

Just wondering if any of NAMs tuning gurus can shed some light on this.. curious minds want to know.

First of all, I think you might have posted this in the wrong forum, as I see you have an '05 MCS.

Second, all the "tuning" you are seeing discussed is being done on the R56 MCS, which has a turbo, and is not naturally aspirated, so I am wicked confused as to what the heck you are asking.

Damn - it is the wrong forum.. though I clicked 1st gen. my bad.

But it's still a general question about tuning companies putting out numbers that I thought unattainiable for naturally aspirated engines - without serious internal rework.

nevermid i guess ...

Bmw engineers their engines to almost the max. Most engines can only get increases of 30ish hp with bolt ons. It's good and bad at the same time.
