Pistons and Fireballed! Q

As soon as I get a set, I will be replacing my pistons. #4 broke two ring lands. I want something stronger, but not outrageous as I am not doing a full rebuild at this time. I will likely purchase wiseco's, but I thought I should double check my options. There seemed to be a buzz about pistons for a while, but it has died out without leaving much info behind.

That brings me to the fireballed question. I notice them in a lot of my search results, but is "Fireballed!" in the vender directory the same as the twin charged/ cylinder head/ pistons fireballed that I see threads about? I ask because the majority of posts I read sound like serious car guys, but when I fallow the vendor link for more info or to make a purchase, I get what looks like...uh... flashy... um... lacks substance . No offense to the site designer.

Anyway, If anyone has aftermarket piston info to share, please do. Especially pictures. I am trying to see the design differences, but most of the ads have a generic picture. The few pics I could find look like thier all flat top designs (except edyn).

I know what your thinking, do a search and make some calls. I have been searching like crazy, but during the week I am way too busy fixing other peoples cars to make calls about mine.
Any help would be great. I need to put my engine back together asap. I am jonesing for the mini big time! Thanks in advanced. And seriously, no offense to fireballed. Some how the site image doesn't match mine.
Thanks again.

Look up Revolution Mini Works, call and talk to Jan.

BTW, I agree with you about Fireballed, all flash, no substance, thats just my opinion. I do not care to debate it with others that may chime in.

I don't really have an opinion of fireballed and this is not meant to bring out the insults. I truly was unsure of the connection. I thought something like the MTH thing was going on.

I may give jan a call, "he's so hot right now".

I really just want my car back on the road.

I've got fireballed pistons in our engine and they have handled 160hp nitrous hit out of a single fogger, head gasket went in 3 places melted the head and block but the pistons are ok.

Send a PM to Fireball Brian

I had Endyn Weisecos but didn't use them in the end because they raise the compression ratio substantially. Wouldn't waste your money on them. Jan will sort you out with some great CPs . The Fireballed guys are good too - I'm currently using their pistons (JE).

Cheers,

Henry

Would you care to elaborate on the statement about the Weisco's?

I don't admit to know a huge amount about pistons, but people around me at the time that were engine builders who incidentally don't sell pistons themselves (they're just engine builders) recommended against the Weiseco's use. If you hear something enough times from a wide range of people, you're kinda inclined to believe it. Sorry I can't be more useful.

Cheers,

Henry

I have JE pistons that are 20 over from Fireballed. Thy work great and the price was fair, they also were able to get them to me in couple weeks everywhere else was back ordered.

Ok dumb question

Unless you are running ALOT of boost, Have spray or are Twincharged, Is there any reason or need to have aftermarket pistons. Im guessing that they are lighter then the factory one's. But what is the advantage unless your making the power to have piston failure.

no.... but many people seem to have failure with the stock ones
could be a bunch of things causing that but that is another thread

I got them because my factory ones blew and I need new pistons and they had to be bigger than stock. If I would have had the JE pistons before, my motor never would have blown. Also I do plan on going with more boost in the near future

Thanks for sharing MK, I have heard alot of good things about you through Jeffc. What was the cause of the piston failure in your case, And know what is your block bored out to?

Thanks Bro, Jeff has been great!
My block was bored out 20 over, crank was balanced, and used ARP bolts. The car ran too lean and broke the piston scarring the block. The car ran a lot tighter after the motor was rebuilt. The weird thing is the motor blew at 4,000 RPM in 4th gear. I guess it was just time to go
what projects do you have in mind?

TUNE TUNE TUNE and a good header. Also getting a wideband is important, I have one now, but I sure wish I had one back in the day.
Also I have had really good luck with my MM Air/water intercooler. It made the car dyno better and feels much better on the streets

Catless doesn't work in CA but it might in NY. I have had good luck with the cheap OBX but I know a lot of people like the RMW header
