m7 Pulley Installation question

Ok, this may be a stupid question but here goes. I am installing a m7 sc pulley. How do you keep the little bugger from moving so you can properly torque all 4 bolts? I don't think I have it aligned properly because all four bolts do not look to have the same amount of recess. As the bolt starts of tighten up I can no longer keep it from rotating as I tighten.

I would put the belt back on and release the tensioner so the pulley won't spin. Also, tighten the bolts like changing a tire in a diagonal order so the pulley doesn't go off to one side.

Did that still can make it move, I am not having any belt sqeall so I guess everything is ok. I have a tendancy to over tighten stuff anyway!

Using a torque wrench, I've found that I can hold the pulley in place with one hand and tighten to the appropriate torque with the other hand.

If you can't keep the pulley from moving while you're torquing the bolts down, you may be trying to tighten them a little too much.

Scott is right! Crutial to use a torque wrench. I am not totally familiar with the M7 pulley but I can only assume Peter includes a torque schedule for the pulley. (Ours is around 80 INCH/lbs total after starting at 15 then 30 then 50 finishing at 80.) But I don't like the idea of using the belt to hold the pulley in place. That could cause alignment issues. Try to hold the pulley whilst torqueing the fasteners.

Let me know if I can help!
