Fire from your exhaust

Does anyone know a surefire way to get flames from your exhaust pipes when you downshift? I saw a subaru of some sort cross an intersection once, he downshifted and flames came out the pipes. It was cool. This would just be something to show off with i guess.

Flame thrower kit.

No comment on my opinion of these.

The totally catless WRXs and STIs will do that on occassion when the throttle closes abruptly (such as on upshifts) depending on the tune. Unburnt fuel gets through and ignited in the exhaust and flames out the back. Basically it's like backfiring (at least that's my understanding of it...). Would be tough to do it through a cat, I imagine. Or you could go with one of the kits to spew flames upon request (as already mentioned).

as rich as our cars run im sure drilling a hole in the exhaust just before the tip and adding a sparkplug there with a switch might ignite the extra fuel. Easy on ol fuel hog cars but in reality our cars while rich probably couldnt do it.

I've seen old school hot rod guys stick an tiny fuel injector and spark plug into the exhaust. The whole thing is wired up to a push button on the dash or under the gas pedal. I like the gas pedal setups, you floor it and BOOM!

This is all quite interesting. I know that Onasled's exhaust shoots a bit of a blue flame, look up the thread, I think that there is a link in MSFITOY's part two thread.

I've heard a catless + CB will do it, but I've never seen my MINI do it (lol because I drive it) but maybe I'll take it to a parking lot one day and have my friend look and see....He claimed his MINI did it and he had a Megan Catless header and a ALTA 2.5" CB.

THREAD JACK: I have asked this question somewhere else, but didn't get an answer:

If you go CATless, don't you throw an SES light becuase of the O2 sensor?

Yes, and actually you get several codes. Last time I cleared mine I think there were 3. Something about bank 1 lean and 2 saying failed post-catalyst or something like that.

Would a car with an o2sim pass a non-sniff type emissions test, assuming they don't do a visual check?

I think i've seen O2 sims on ebay for $10 or less and I could have sworn there was another site that carried them for around $20.

And to answer the question about my SES, yes it stays on and has been on constantly for the last 5 months or so. I'm just now starting to get annoyed by it so I might do something about it.

I just checked out that site, and if we can get 50 of us to buy it at once, we get it for $20.00

Ok, I gotta throw my 2 cents in here…

What will you get from going catless? A couple of HP? At the cost of our communial air. I'ts my inner hippie coming out here, don't go catless. At least get a racing cat from Random. Then you will have sorta clean exhaust.
