which pulley?

I've started thinking perhaps a pulley reduction would be a good thing. As you can see from my signature I've done quite a few other mods on my 02 MCS. Any thoughts out there on what brand is best/worst and why? I'm thinking probably 15% but also wonder about the M7 16%. Then, do I need different plugs? A computer chip... then what. Or, will just doing the pulley work out okay. I am mostly concerned that I don't cause reliablity problems. I am NOT mechanically handy. Oh yeah, in case you can't figure it out - the car is way out of warranty! I appreciate input from those who have already done these mods. I've done as best as I can using the search function on NAM to answer my questions before I posted. It is kinda impossible!

As much as I would love to say that there is a difference between all of the 15% pulleys on the market, a large majority of them will serve you exactly the same. Some, like ours, have 6 bolts to hold the hub on while others havee 4 bolts. In reality they will serve you the same.

With a 15% pulley, you don't need new plugs or a new ecu. You can add them as well, but they are not necessary when doing it. The only thing you will need, depending on your stock piece, is a new belt.

I looked into this abit last night. I read through pretty much every thread related to supercharger pulley. General consensus is a pulley, is a pulley, is a pulley. They will all serve you well.

Basically, yeah as far as I'm concerned, a pulley is a pulley. Depends on what material, bolt type, and how many peices and of course how much reduction. What I would do, is just decide what reduction you want, and just pick one that looks good. There really isn't a single pulley out there that anyone has had a significant amount of bad luck with, so pick whatever looks good to you.

is a 15% vs a 16% even going to make a noticeable difference?

Get full advantage out of your 15% pulley with custom flash. You'll get 2-3 times the additional power. You can mail your ECU to Lucky Dog Garage to get that done.

im going with 15% and trying to get a mini-madness one or probably a helix.
everyone says they all do the same thing. and people say it's all about marketing pretty much. so i say go for whichever one you feel that is tugging you towards.

I don't knowabout 45-60, but you should get 30-40 more whp. I'm headed up to LDG tomorrow. I'll check with John to see if he's still doing mail-ins.

Pulleys are pulleys in terms of performance. Making the proper assumption that all of us make a 15%/17% etc to the same diameter then yes they all perform the same. But that isn't to say they are all the same in terms of other features. We have recently evolved our pulley to be a bit lighter and more grippy on the belt, but that is not to say that the earlier models had any suffering in these areas. What I suggest is that you shop the overall quality of the part, the company behind it, the origin of its manufacture (USA vs. ?), the warranty and customer service behind the part. In most cases you will end up with exactly what you want at a reasonable price. Good luck in the hunt. Even if you don't buy an ALTA pulley, you will love the extra HP and TRQ!
Let me know if I can help in anyway!
