Custom Front Intercooler!

I see that people that have converted to only turbo setup have custom front mount intercoolers. I was wondering, us Mini owners still with the supercharger setup, can we put a custom front mount intercooler on our cars? Any info would be great. Thanks

Here you go:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...highlight=fmic
and check out the search feature, using "front mount intercoolers".
Good hunting, Will

Is it still possible to do a front mount intercooler with the factory supercharger setup, not twincharge or turbo setup?

I've been working on how to run the piping for a while. A nice hidden set of inlet and outlet pipes would be sweet, but the routing will be much more involved, especially coming out of the SC.
Utilizing the stock IC horns would be much easier to do and the piping can be made to look pretty cool, but they would have to run in front of the radiator.
I'll be removing my A/C soon, then i'll be able to see how much room there is to do a FMIC. The core I use won't be as big as Tuls', but big enough to fill the area of the bottom grille.

yes it is... it has been done a couple times... the one I liked most was done on a race car... the two charge pipes ran down the center and connected back to thier current locations... but the current charge pipes were of course modified to take the 2.5 in pipes.... the kewlest thing about it for me was that they mounted the filter right in the middle of the two pipes basically where the TMIC used to be so that the hood scoop was feeding the air directly.... it was pretty kewl...

That is definitely cool, and a very good idea.
I was just going to fab a duct from the scoop to feed my current setup, but having a filter in the scoop hole, then going directly to the TB seems like a much better setup as long as it's completely isolated from under hood heat.

yeah... I liked it.. I dont run a filter only a velocity stack at the end of a carbon tube... it picks up air at the stock local... but I figure since it's TC it doesn't really matter... and ontop of that I have so much air coming in through the scoop that it's prolly fine...

Tules- I was looking at your engine bay and it's completely different with pipes and things going on in there that makes it look beautifull.

Where is the head and did you have to remove the top mount IC or couldd you keep it?

Also, can you do that on my car if I were to fly you in?

you wouldnt really want to do that, it would cause more restriction to have two intercoolers than just the top mount, plus you would have to run more pipes and more bends, therefore im pretty sure it would void out the gains you would get from the extra cooling

From what i understand going front mount with the supercharger, with only having the basic mods isnt that great of an idea, becauase of the loss in pressure

I am not sure what you mean by where is the head.... the head of your motor is located below the valve cover...

doing any type of FMIC you will loose the TMIC... there is no reason to keep it...

I understand the location of the head but from looking at your enngine bay where it is completely different than what mine looks like.

It could be that you have removed the top mount IC where as t makes the top of the engige bay look very different than stock. Guess I have never looked at my engine bay with the IC removed.
