Drivetrain Broken Invidia Weld
Broken Invidia Weld
Hey gang...quick question. The flange on the tailpipe section that allows you to adjust and lock down the tips once they're in place broke at the weld on one side of my Invidia. I can't imagine it'll really be worth my while to grip about warranty and all that to Invidia. My question is, do I have to have the muffler shop use a TIG welder since these are stainless pieces, or will a standard MIG weld do. I'm honestly a bit clueless about what the differences really are, I just recall seeing somewhere once upon a time that stainless = TIG, everything else = MIG. Local muffler shop estimates $20-25 tops for the fix.
Thanks for any helpful info someone might have. I just want to get rid of this rattle and get my pipes back into alignment.

yeah, looks will never matter where this will end up. You'd have to have a major love for neck cramps and asphalt in your face. So that's just for aluminum huh? Thanks for the reply!
The main issue you might run into is the type of wire they use. Stainless needs stainless wire. Mild steel wire will rust just like regular steel would. Also, welding SS is not as easy as welding mild steel. Just make sure the shop knows that it's SS, I'm sure they've done other exhausts like it.
As a person who knows just a little about welding (seriously, i only know a little) i think i will say this.
If you use the right wire and dont let the peice get to hot then you will probably ok with the MIG. I cant imagine any reason that you would have to go with TIG other than the fact that gives you more control and a cleaner look.
That said none of this would matter to me as all i have is an old stick welder that i havent used in ages. So i would have to pay the shop to do it, and for 20 dollar's i would take the peice of mind from having it done by a "pro" (this coming from a guy who likes to do everything himself).
