Drivetrain HP Loss with Intercooler installation?
i think its beacause you loose a few punds of boost pressure since its bigger i could be wrong but since its bigger youll keep the air cooler so youll be able to keep some hp ware your stock one would heatsoak real fast again not shure but i recall that being said
I'd say, (though I'm no expert by any means), that there are too many variables to point to where a loss or gain could be at times. I can surmise that you had a prior run before the installation of the intercooler. It's possible the weather was different that day, your fuel was better somehow, operator error, or even a variation on the dyno itself. Intercoolers are almost impossible to show gains on a dyno, unless it's a water to air unit. The real question would be, how does it feel on the road?
Good luck!
Good luck!
A larger intercooler will not reduce the total obtainable boost but may increase the amount of time to get to full boost pressure by a few nanoseconds. That is offset by reduced backpressure across IC as a result of the larger effective flow area. This actually will increase the maximum boost at the intake valves. None of this should cause any perceptible change in power. A leak in one or both of the transition boots, however, will cause serious power loss and even limp mode if the leak is serious.

GUYS and GALS: The ALTA intercooler is bigger than stock. But this style of S/C is SO quick to respond that the difference in bosot repsonse is identical. NO LOSS at all of the boost pressure, boost response etc. UNLESS you have a boot loose or punctured.
I will say that the TMIC upgrade can be a bit tight, but it is doable and well worth the cursing and swearing.
Yariel08: Do you have a boost gauge on the car? If so what does it read? did it drop after installation?
If the pressure dropped, check the connections. The things that can directly affect boost pressure are changes in belt tension, pulley sizes, exhaust (due to either increased or decreased backpressure), but the TMIC isn't one of them.
I am happy that you say the car is running better, but let determine why the HP is different. (The point about different dyno times, humidity, temps, etc is VERY valid. Hard to compare if those are different. Also the load settings on the dyno, gear selection during a pull all play into that as well.)
Lets get more info and get this solved!
Thanks folks! Off to my 3-d ultrasound of our latest child! So excited!

Thank you!
It was VERY kool! The little guy allowed us to see his face etc. REALLY weird, but VERY kool all at the same time!
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
