Removing catalytic converter???

Hi guys!

I wanted to remove my catalytic converter to gain power and sound, my friend also wants to do this on his jetta. My question is is there anyway to solve the problem with the catalytic sensor so that the check engine won't light up and I can pass emision tests? Like a chip that you would plug the sensor or some mod to the ECU or something?

Thanks!

There is about 2 ways to get around a CEL. 1, install a high flow cat and hope after time the ECU recognizes it as a cat (better choice) or remove it/gut it and get it turned so it sees the cat as being there even though it isn't. BTW-it will sound like poo without a cat, it is illegal to not have one on a vehicle that came with one, high flows are illegal also, and they really don't rob any power. Subie guys have tested them and high flows make as much as a test pipe.

Have you personally experienced the sound? I'm running an ALTA Catless header and LOVE the sound.... and it does not sound like poo. No ricey high notes or anything.

And to sum things up....yes you can run with no CAT (bypass with o2 sim), it is illegal, and apparently there are no to very little HP gains, and if you can afford it, get a CAT.

Okay, I'm going off of Honda catless sound. You know how Honda people are. Either a gutted cat, a high flow, or no cat leading into a resonator/expansion chamber they call a muffler. That sounds like poo. If you like it loud and put a real exhaust on it, ie- a real muffler from a reputable company, than it will sound good.

Yea I know what you are referring to.... You know those hot imports without the mufflers....sounds amazing!!! /sarcasm!

But yes I do believe my MINI sounds good....catless header coupled with a Magnaflow (with has a resonator) sounds great imo....but I guess some people do it for cost-inefficiency considering the ALTA Header and Magnaflow aren't exactly the cheapest pieces that you can buy (not to mention many other pieces like Miltek, Borla, etc. and similar top-notch Honda brands)....but you get what you pay for!!!
