Drivetrain Gruppe M intake for r56
It is a good looking piece but I don't know how carbon fiber will take to the shock of repeated hood closings . The heat underhood will make the CF brittle over time and prone to cracking. Time will tell on that one. It is unfortunate that they limited the buyer to not being able to run a strut tower brace if they so desired but as I said earlier it looks great !

Great point about a bunch of things....
1. I think we should do a survey on how many people pop their hoods at least 1x a week figured over the the normal lifespan someone actually owns a car. Based on the number of blown engines due to lack of checking the oil, I would venture to say the answer for actually opening the hood would be very very low.
2. After haven driven a car with the proper suspension on it over the last 2 weeks I would venture to say a strut bar isn't needed. The car has perfect balance. I guess you need one if your suspension isn't up to par.
thanks for re-enforcing MY POINT!

Sorry dude, but if that would hold true, none of your parts are any good
as BMW engineered them properly to begin with....You know things like
the head, header, etc. There's always room for improvement
PS. NO NEED FOR YELLING

1/ I would think that anyone that spent close to $ 2,000 would next buy a clear lexan hood to show that beauty off. Baring that they would surely pop that hood at the slightest provocation. I will have to disagree on this point.
2/ The great Strut Tower debate raged long hard from the very beginning until it was revealed that the mighty JCW themselves offered a strut tower brace and even used it in their Challenge race series. Suddenly the detractors got much more quiet as most people believe that if JCW went to the trouble to design , test and Mfg a bar that it must actually do something . After trying five different bars and found 3 that worked and two that did not I became a believer in the concept. This was even before our bar with its anti mushrooming capabilities was on the market. If you have a lowered car , sticky tires or even a stiffer rear sway bar you will see a benefit from a proper strut tower brace . If you drive aggressively in the hills , canyons or any other type of twistys you will also notice added stability and ability to maintain a proper line. The bottom line is the more you push your car whether it be with an improved suspension or do to driving style the more you will benefit. As you mentioned earlier Jan ,and I agree , you do not need one. I guess this would be a split on this point .

You may be right about the hood issue, though. I opened mine once and it already looks like someone smashed my heat shield with a ball peen hammer. I wonder how much more it would be to get the intake in that racy crumpled aluminum look.
At $ 1800 plus over seas shipping it might be awhile before anyone actually sees one . It is a good looking piece but I don't know how carbon fiber will take to the shock of repeated hood closings . Gosh if ALL carbon fiber is so very fragile... i guess i shouldn't even drive some of my other cars... the whole car could just come apart while driving...
thanks for the heads up M7... also... someone might want to inform Ferrari of North America that every single person with an Enzo shouldn't open or close the bonnet too many times...

It's ok to disagree that is what makes forums interesting.
I think the price of $1800 is wrong but it really doesn't matter as most people buy stuff on looks instead of how it performs. Strange but true.
Getting back to the strut brace, I have tracked my car and plan on tracking it regularly in future. I see no reason to put a strut brace on the car with this suspension that I have now in place. I have tested many suspensions in the past and they have not held a candle to this one. I believe JCW added a strut brace because the stock suspension is dearly lacking in track environments. I guess if M7 comes to the track on the 23rd we can all see for ourselves. I know I am excited to try out the new suspension with some stickies

WOW i wouldnt expect this much bickering from the mini guys! i didnt know this was as bad as the honDUh guys.
FWIW Carbon itself is not brittle like you were trying saying. its all in the resin system and the layup used.
*R King* Cant we all get along? *R King*

My view for the Gruppe M is this. The intake made by Gruppe M is SEXY. It would be hard for anyone to beat what they did. M7 did an excellent job but my persnal opinion is, Gruppe M look much better but M7 offers value for money, performance and good looks. Now, would I buy the Gruppe M intake? If I have money to burn, Yes!
Since I am on a budget, I'd get the M7 over the Gruppe M.
But as I've said, I still prefer the Gruppe M if I have money for it. I don't care about the HP gains anyway

All you have seen up to this point is a first article with a primer coat!!!!!!
Just wait and see when the part is all dolled up and purdy....

I will bet you change your mind.

I'm just after the WOW factor when people open my engine bay. The power that the MCS is providing now is more than adequate for me. I just want the Gruppe M for bragging rights
exactly, too expensive for me but I love the look of their system and the 2 piece set up that leaves the engine exposed when the hood is up... very slick
