pin holed ic ?

if my ic had a pin hole in it ; would it push air out at idle or suck air in ? i started the car and was under the hood bleeding air outa my upper hose and could hear a hiss . i thought boots , then intake, then hoses . all of the above were good. the sound seemed to be localized to the rear left of the ic surface. passenger side. still thought it was from underneath . put a propane tank to the area with no idle change. so... pulled the ic and filled with water and found some droplets formed in the area of question . or at least close . so if it's a leak ;is this common with a four yr old ic ? and is there nothing to be done but replace it ? i assume air was pushing out as the propane had no effect . but i was under the impression that at idle ,the intake was at vacuum . is the ic area still positive just after the sc? enough to keep the propane from being sucked in?

You might try a shop vac on exhaust to pressurize the IC . Duct tape one end and duct tape a hose hooked up to a cleaned out shop vac to the other .Use dish soap to locate leaks by looking for bubbles . You might try JB weld on the leak.

good idea . with the vac . but the weld i think won't get in there . i believe the leak is in a finned area. i'd have to destroy the fins . but in light of the alternative ..... any used ones out there?

douse the area with some windex spray. It it makes bubbles or not will tell you what is going on.

Pull the IC and take to a radiator shop... they'll be able to fix it. But if you clean the area well and rough it a little with some sandpaper then JB weld will also fix it.
