Drivetrain I was a modding moron
note to all: there will be a MM meeting at road atlanta on 7-8 july. several charter members will be in attendance to offer up their experiences and council the noobies. hope to see you there. it is actually a BMWCCA DE, but several subscribers to this thread (myself included) will be there.
When I first got my S just like most I started to mod it, just bolt stuff on change this change that with no real idea why or what I was doing.
If a vendors ad said it would add hp put it on. Changed supension pieces with no idea what else was effected just because I could.

This is a remarkable thread!
Kudos to mozzarella for having the cheese ***** to admit to making mistakes and then developing a plan to rectify them.
My 06 MCS is still a mod virgin (although I did just pick up a WMS 15% pulley for dirt cheap), but the driving school is something I need to consider more than mega HP.

And looking mahvelous while doing so...
Cause you what Fernado says....
"it is better to look good than to feel good, you know what I am saying?"
close "wastn my Master Card away..." interest rates are going up what more can I say.... I'm a modding moron and so on and so on.
I can beat all of you guys with just one more install of these ultra cool cross drilled brake lines...
I'll report back after my test drive...or not...

That was key to helping us avoid the moronic modding syndrome (MMS). One of the first places we went to after getting the MCS was Helix in Philly. She would mention a mod (which he sold) and Eric would ask her what she was going to do with the car. She would answer and he would say, "you don't need that, don't waste your money." We gained a lot of respect for him when he basically told her not to buy something from him when she literally had the check-book out and was ready to spend.
not that I'm bragging but I wasn't exactly a modding moron. I combed through threads and books and phone calls etc to figure out what I wanted/needed out of my car and how to get there.
So far I have purchased everything second hand off the marketplace here. As far as engine/supension etc I've got about 1k tied up and have:
15% pully
alta air box
2.5" cat back one-ball
alta ic diverter
M7 ram scoop
hsport springs
ie camber plates
adjustable end links
slow and steady wins the race. Being a guinea pig is fun and all... but it's not fun when you realize you spent a crapload of cash learning things for other people like me.

I don't have enough money to throw around to have truly reached moron status. :D
The Borla exhaust on my Cooper should probably qualify as it doesn't do anything except make noise.
Since I haven't been able to get race seats yet, the rollbar is kind of silly back there.
The 16x7.5" Kosei wheels weren't the best choice since Toyo RA-1 doesn't come in a good size for 16" wheels. But now I've just bought a used set of 17" wheels to solve that problem. :D
If I had the money, I'd probably have made a bunch more mistakes.

Be sure and give us a full report I need a set of those bad, I might have to inlarge the holes in my drilled rotors to see them better.
