yeah, the thread finally got past non admin bashing!

Jayar
Their exhaust probably makes those gains b/c it's a prototype, and zeil only fabed the rear portion, they used everything from the resonator up to the engine.

wearerpsu
I would bet 30lbs loss of weight would be much better than 1 hp gain.
The seats themselves didnt add the weight, it was the brackets that added the weight. I'm sure you could get some much lighter brackets or trim the ones they used.

Davbret
I like the 15s, they look great. 16s would be nice too. But you gotta remember that this is SCC, they're in it for performance more than looks.

By the way they also have an S13 Silvia (early 90s 240sx over in the states) that they spray painted flat black with a couple cans of paint, I like the look (will try to post pics or show web address), they also gave it the infamous turbo potatoe (if you read SCC religiously like me you know what I mean) last issue I believe.

The reason for removal of the plastic trim was that it is faster for the body shop to paint the car, read cheaper b/c they dont have to waste the hour taking it all off or taping it (labor cost), did you read the whole thing, they tell you why.

here's two things to look at
A JCW feature thingy from SCC

Part 1 of their spray painted S13

Almost forgot,

It figures that your wouldnt like the 15s SMG, you used to have those gargantuan Hamans and now you got the Volks (I wish I lived in japan, you're lucky in some departments, but not others)

I think my car is stealth looking. That just looks blacked out. There's a difference, at least to me.

(...and I've got some pics of the Mad MINI going up later today....)

Davebret, your car does look clean.

Nice!

The SCC car appears to really cobbled together. Maybe a long term solution would be better engineered and more refined.

okay BK. And what about the 11 horses you left out. Bottom line- 12 horses verse 1 and 30 lbs less. Ill take the Magnaflow any day against an exhaust that produced 1 hp and was too loud for street use. This isn't much of an argument.

I agree weaverpsu, I would rather have the magnaflow. I'm just saying that 30lbs more than likely beats 1hp gain.

I like your car aswell Davbret, but clean doesnt always qualify as stealth. If I saw your rims I would think twice (now kids in imports around here, if I see rims thats probably all they got, "now I have rims lets go drag race" <---- dorks, straight line is gay!)

Did you see the sprayed S13 I put the link to davbret?

Yup, not my cup of tea. My first attempt at painting w/ wet sanding turned out better than that ugly monstrosity. Flat paint on cars is retarded and not very functional. Just think, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to wax it effectively with out product trapped between the paint ridges. For a mag like SCC, that's freakin' ghetto! They can afford a paint job. Geeze!

I like what they've done. A stock, 2700 lb MINIS with 163 HP is 16.56 lbs/HP. So that is your baseline. Lose 16.5 lbs, gain 1 hp. But it doesn't really end there, because the lower weight car will out corner and out brake the higher horsepower car.

Same goes with the wheels, in my opinion. Sure, big wheels look cool, but they are S-L-O-W. Why do you think the serious Miata autocrossers run 13" wheels? I've been thinking about getting a set of the lightest 15" wheels I can find for autocross use for my MINIS, actually. I've never understood the people who put intake, exhaust, etc. on their car, and then some huge, heavy 18" wheels.

But hey, to each his own. MINIs are made to customize.

That S13 isnt much for waxing after that paint job anyways. I still like it though!

One of my favorite MINI's is koolmini's ride. He has put together a great stealthy darth vader look that matches his biker background in a great way!

Give me a week or two and I'll have some all black BBS wheels to go with it.

Davebret, are those the wheels seen in mini madness sponsor photo? If so are they any good for auto crossing? I could swear they said they were lighter than the ones made specifically for auto-x. I was looking at those rims for some time now.(the ones on madness site) Nice car. Maybe you should think about the painted gas cap that SCC had. Think it would look sharp with your color combo.

Yellow Mini, good point about the tire size. BUT what they were saying was that it looked best with 15's and a true mini that way. They have to recognize this is a NEW MINI not the old. peace

I very much like the looks of all these "stealth" cars but in my mind the ultimate stealth is the MINI that looks bone stock on the outside but snorts fire under the bonnet. That's the ultimate when some kid with a trash can exhaust gets it handed to them and he's left just wondering what happened and how did it happen.

After my pulley and ECU are put on in 2 weeks I may have to have a Magnaflow added and somehow put the original tips back on for the stock effect.

If your car looks as good as those posted here you better have the mods under the hood to back them up (and I know you guys do).

Regards,
Jim

Stealth vs. Sleeper. Two different things in IMHO. All the cars posted in this thread are very stealthy -- as in, they'd look right at home flying low, under the radar on a secret mission...very cool. No sleepers in the bunch, though. I think those are the ones you guys are talking about. The ones you like to spank the "sticker-tuned" cars with. All the mods under the hood, except for the occasional subtle clue. Both types have their advantages. It's tough to go stealthy in an Indi Blue/White MCS, so I went sleeper. Sits a little lower than stock, though.

Personally, I think they did a good job making the car asthetically less pleasing. If you want to read about a really bad *** mini, go to their sister company and read european car's Maxed-Out Mini. There is a lot of great mods done and more to come from that car. Weight reduction is key, and there's a lot of sprung and unsprung weight taken off that car--though, most of it will be put back on in the future. There weren't any power modification, if i can remember correctly, but the car pulled off a 14.9 in the 1/4 mile and 73.6mph slalom. That would be the route I take. I get real giddy when I read about project Maxed-Out Mini.

Man that eurocar max mini is ugly! If they would take all those stickers off it wouldnt look like all the dumb a slow hondas around here. Otherwise very nice. Now their street car looks much nicer.

"Stealth vs. Sleeper. "

You're absolutely right Jayar, I'm getting them confused. I guess sleeper is what I prefer over something outwardly modified to only "look" fast.

BTW, the pulley and ECU rock. My sleeper lives!!!

I perfer this little project S to the others... GRM MINI

The SCC MINI looks ok... 15s are fine with me but the polished lip black centers do the car no favors... solid 15s would look much better... All told I am NOT much of a SCC fan or any other "tuner" mags out there. GRM and North American Pylon are my only subscriptions left.... LOL...
